An electrical contact insertion tool includes an insertion assembly, a handle assembly slidably coupled to the insertion assembly such that the insertion assembly is translatable between a first position with respect to the handle assembly and a second position with respect to the handle assembly, and a retention mechanism selectively movable between a first configuration and a second configuration. The handle assembly is configured to retain the insertion assembly in the first position with a first predetermined amount of force when the insertion assembly is in the first position. The retention mechanism is configured to retain an object between the retention mechanism and the insertion assembly with a second predetermined amount of force when the retention mechanism is in the second configuration.

Electrical contact insertion tool

An electrical contact insertion tool includes a handle, an insertion tip assembly extending from the handle, a surface probe assembly extending from the handle, and an indicator. The insertion tip assembly is configured to apply a force to an electrical contact to accomplish insertion of the electrical contact into an electrical connector. The surface probe assembly is configured to determine a displacement associated with the insertion tip assembly. The indicator is configured to present an indication of positive electrical contact insertion based at least in part on the force and the displacement associated with the insertion tip assembly.

A cable terminating and grounding apparatus and method comprises a backshell including a cable terminating and grounding adapter shield which comprises a cable receiving and positioning portion comprising a plurality of individual cable passages around the outer rim of the receiving and positioning portion and a gathering portion adjacent the receiving and positioning portion comprising a plurality of individual cable receiving slots around an outer periphery of the gathering portion, each slot having a side wall receiving a cable shield enclosing one or more wires comprising the cable. A gathering mechanism may engage each of the cable shields oppositely from the respective slot side wall and force the respective shield into engagement with the respective slot side wall. There may be a cable passage in a center portion of the receiving and positioning portion and the gathering portion. A locking portion of the adapter shield may engage a connector.

Modular cable clamp with high impedance surface

A cable terminating and grounding apparatus and method may comprise a backshell including a cable terminating and grounding adapter shield which may comprise a cable receiving and positioning portion comprising a plurality of individual cable passages around the outer rim of the receiving and positioning portion; and, a gathering portion adjacent the receiving and positioning portion comprising a plurality of individual cable receiving slots around an outer periphery of the gathering portion, each slot having a side wall receiving a cable shield enclosing one or more wires comprising the cable. A gathering mechanism may engage each of the cable shields oppositely from the respective slot side wall and force the respective shield into engagement with the respective slot side wall. There may be a cable passage in a center portion of the receiving and positioning portion and the gathering portion. A locking portion of the adapter shield may engage a connector.

A self-aligning coupling apparatus incorporates a first connecting element having a body with a first set of accessory teeth and a second connecting element having a body and a second set of accessory teeth for engagement of the first set. A coupling ring joins the first and second element. The first set of accessory teeth includes spaced indexing teeth having an apex angle less than an apex angle of the remaining teeth of the first set and a height greater than the remaining teeth of the first set. The second set of accessory teeth is has an apex angle complementing the apex angle of the remaining teeth of the first set. The second set of accessory teeth have canals intermediate the teeth to receive the indexing teeth upon joining of the first and second element by the interconnecting coupling.

Self-aligning vibration resistant coupling apparatus

A grounding contact member for electrically connecting cooperating metal shells in a coupling comprises a metal band divided along both edges into several spring contact fingers that are bent inwardly into two U-shape portions. The contact member is located in an annular recess around the inside of a coupling ring with the fingers at one end engaging the metal shell on which the coupling ring is mounted and the fingers at the other end engaging the other metal shell to which the coupling ring is connected.

A strain relief, modular, self-aligning, corrosion resistant, highly conductive, environmentally sealing cable clamp or 'backshell' has a female adapter having a coupling ring at its proximal end which is connected to a rotatable flexible tubing with a split saddle clamp at is distal end and a male adapter which can be a ground or EMI/RFI adapter. This cable clamp, or 'backshell', ensures full engagement on the interfacing accessory teeth, &#x201c;backshell&#x201d; and connector, and resistive to environmental hazards, maintains electrical/electronic shielding integrity, improve mechanical reliability and provides form factor capability.

An EMI terminating and grounding strain release clamp assembly or &ldquo;backshell&rdquo; is provided having male and female component members and coupling intermediate members constructed of conductive metals. Upon coupling of the female and male component members a split metallic ring is compressed and envelopes a termination platform with electrical cable shields enclosed in a BeCu wrap-around band. This joint connection produces an electrical grounding path which provides EMI protection. Assembly of the component parts is accomplished without the aid or use of a tool. Additionally, the modular insert construction of the connector allows flexibility to the wiring system, meaning, the connector can have a signal, power, coaxial or twinaxial or combination circuitry and also a bayonet coupling mechanism assembly using dowel pins and dual helical ramp grooves to retrin the connector halves in the coupled condition. Consequently, a visual indicator consisting of an arrowhead opposite a marker labeled 'HOME' provides assurance on a fully coupled plug and receptacle connector.

An improved MIL-C-26500 type electrical connector having improved environment resisting wire sealing webs, a hard dielectric face socket insert to detect splayed or bent pins, and a controlled configuration of contact retention clips providing improved electrical performance, easy insertion and removal of contacts and improved assembly, serviceability and maintainability. Additionally, the Mil-C-26500 receptacle circular connector having a set of ground wavesprings assembled on the receptacle connector flange to assure a secure ground path on electrically bonded connectors.

A cable clamp which utilizes a bayonet coupling attachment mechanism when coupled into an electrical connector. Helical ramp grooves formed in the interior of a coupling ring act against bayonet pins mounted on the electrical connector to effect coupling between the two components. A preloaded disc cone shape spring washer becomes effected during the coupling procedure to maintain a no-motion condition on the cable clamp used in high vibration or large shock forces areas. Additionally, a plurality of detent pins are automatically shifted into a holding position at the completion of the coupling action, thereby further contributing to the maintenance of the coupled condition between the cable clamp and electrical connector. Also, a grounding spring is centrally located on the cable clamp body which when coupled to an electrical connector makes interengageable contact thus providing low impedance and additional mechanical strengthening properties to the cable clamp.
