A cylinder former having a variable hydraulic pulse whilst drainage, for use in papermaking comprising a drainage means comprising a cylinder mould and a contoured member adjacent the cylinder mould having a plurality of hills and valleys which force entrained liquid through the fiber suspension forming on the cylinder mould so as to improve sheet formation. A baffle is provided in the discharge portion of the former to prevent stock build-up therein.

Variable hydraulic pulse drainage cylinder former

A drainage device and method which provides for drainage from paper or pulp stock on a fabric in a sheet or mat making machine which includes a primary blade and trail blade with a gap therebetween for drainage wherein the size of the gap controls drainage and the primary blade is so configured so as to force a portion of the drained liquid through the fabric to create paper stock activity and disbursement while minimizing turbulence and maintaining laminar flow in the machine direction along with providing reinforcement of CD shear.

Each of the forming units is supported on corresponding rigid supports and is provided with a rolls system on which the forming unit rests when the support are removed, in such a manner that the selected forming unit can be removed from the production line for cleaning or maintenance purposes, without interrupting the operation of the former equipment.

An under felt inclined flat former for making multilayer or monolayer sheets of paper comprising a plurality of forming units arranged along a production line. Each of the forming units is supported on corresponding rigid supports and is provided with a roller system on which the forming unit or a portion thereof rests which when the supports are removed, the selected forming unit or portion thereof can be removed from the production line for cleaning or maintenance purposes, without interrupting the operation of the former equipment. Each forming unit including means to create activity in the stock in addition to causing liquid to be drained therefrom for sheet formation.

The apparatus of the present invention is a papermaking machine with a forming fabric in a looped configuration. The forming fabric carries paper stock through the papermaking process. The forming fabric passes over a liquid-filled cavity which is bounded on its lower surface by a flexible non-permeable membrane. A roll with regular protrusions underneath the membrane is rotated to vertically excite the membrane, the liquid-filled cavity, and, subsequently, the paper stock in order to disperse the paper stock into a random orientation.

Activity induction in papermaking

The equipment of the present invention serves to eliminate light particles, inks and air from a fibrous suspension, and consists of a vertical separating cup which spins at high speed. Feeding of the fibrous suspension and light contaminants takes place through the upper vertical portion, or through the lower vertical portion; the equipment comprises a stabilizer which serves to control the inner turbulence of the suspension, in order for light contaminants to be concentrated at the center.
