A valve assembly includes an inlet; an outlet; a valve seat between the inlet and the outlet; a valve member which moves between a first valve member position and a second valve member position; and a solenoid subassembly which allows the valve member to move between the first valve member position and the second valve member position. The solenoid subassembly includes a coil having a coil first end and a coil second end; an armature which reciprocates, based on polarity of an electrical current applied to the coil, between a first armature position which allows the valve member to move to the first valve member position and a second armature position which allows the valve member to move to the second valve member position; a first magnet which latches the armature in the first armature position; and a second magnet which latches the armature in the second armature position.

A three-port flow control valve comprising a valve body having two opposite-facing valve seats disposed along a central bore terminating in an exhaust port. A supply port communicates with the first valve seat, and a common port communicates with the second valve seat. A pintle shaft connected to an actuating linear solenoid extends along the central bore. A first valve head actuated by the pintle shaft mates with the first valve seat. A second valve head disposed colinearly with the pintle shaft mates with the second valve seat. Opening of the first valve closes the second valve and vice versa. While the solenoid is de-energized the supply pressure keeps the first valve closed. A spring may be disposed between the second valve head and the exhaust port to urge the second valve head to close with the second valve seat.

A valve for a control system of a vehicle includes a plunger slidably supported in a valve housing. Within the housing is a valve seat member that defines a valve seat configured for engaging the plunger in a closed configuration. The edges of the valve seat member are slightly spaced from the housing, and a resilient support element such as an o-ring is disposed between the valve seat member and the housing to permit lateral motion of the valve seat member relative to a long axis of the plunger as the plunger moves to the closed configuration.

A vibration damping feature for a sensor assembly, particularly a variable reluctance position sensor including a spool assembly, a harness assembly mechanically and electrically joined to the spool assembly, and a cap which sealingly encloses the spool and harness assemblies. The vibration damping feature preferably is in the form of a plurality of crush ribs provided on the periphery of an upper disk of the spool assembly adjacent the joints. The crush ribs contactingly abut the cap sidewall so as to positively locate, in a fixed relationship, the spool assembly relative to the cap adjacent the joints.

A sensing assembly identifies detonations in a plurality of cylinders of an internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine includes an engine block. The sensing assembly includes a base that is fixedly secured to the engine block of the internal combustion engine. The sensing assembly also includes a sleeve that is fixedly secured to the base and extends outwardly therefrom. A sensor element extends around a portion of the sleeve. The sensor element receives vibrations generated by the detonations of the internal combustion engine and converts those vibrations into an electrical current. The sensing assembly includes a first terminal abutting the sensor element. The first terminal includes a first terminal pad directed in a first direction. The sensing assembly also includes a second terminal abutting the sensor element. The second terminal includes a second terminal pad directed in a second direction opposite the first direction such that leads connected to each of the first and second terminal pads are prevented from shorting the sensor element.

Sensing assembly and method of making same

A knock sensor, comprising: a sleeve; a piezoelectric transducer disposed about the sleeve, the piezoelectric transducer being insulated from the sleeve and in electrical communication with a first terminal and a second terminal; wherein the piezoelectric transducer is preloaded by a combination seismic mass and nut configured to threadingly engage a portion of the sleeve and provide a mass to the knock sensor, the combination seismic mass and nut being integrally formed out of the same material.

Knock sensor

An arrangement for mounting a sensor at a fixed position with respect to a target is provided. The arrangement includes a housing for the sensor. A mount is provided spaced away from target having a bore. A fastener is provided for insertion into the bore. Fastener has a shank with a tapered portion. A looped bracket is provided having an eyelet for encircling the housing. The bracket has two opposite ends that are at least partially overlapping having generally aligned holes for reception of the shank. One of the bracket ends has a wedge tab. Upon insertion of the shank into the bore the wedge tab is contacted by the tapered portion of the shank to cause the bracket eyelet to close to capture the housing.
