The present invention relates to (i) a reactive ink for ink jet printing comprising a two-component system, the first component comprising a polymerizable monomer, and the second component comprising a polymerization catalyst, wherein the monomer is able to form a polymeric film at low temperature within thirty minutes, preferably within ten minutes, from contacting the catalyst, (ii) a process of making an image on a non-porous substrate using such a reactive ink, and an ink jet print head including a two component ink-system.

In a monolithic ink jet printhead, a structural layer is made comprising cavities, obtained from the polymerization of a solution of a monomer, or an oligomer, and a photointiator; during the polymerization by radiation, acid species are unduly generated in zones protected by a mask, due to reflection of the radiation on reflecting surfaces of the support of the sructural layer; these acid species cause undue polymerization of the solution on the inside of the cavities to oppose the formation of these acid species, a polymerzation inhibitor basic compound is used.

This invention relates to a method of inkjet printing, in particular for use in POS systems. In particular the printing method according to the invention is of the thermal type. In order to obtain high speed printing, for example of 15-20 lines per second when printing text on a paper medium 60-80 mm wide (for example receipts), the drops of ink ejected during the printing operation advantageously have a relatively large volume, i.e. not less than approximately 100 picoliters (pl) and preferably between 100 and 200 pl. The ink used for applications in POS systems must quickly penetrate an extensive range of paper media. This requirement is satisfied by using an ink having a surface tension of not more than approximately 35 dyne/cm (mN/m). Problems of stagnation and dripping of the ink caused by the printing conditions are overcome through the use of a nozzle plate coated with a wetting-resistant layer of silicon carbide. This coating material has proved to have non-wettability properties which do not significantly deteriorate during a printing operation over a long period of time.

Method of inkjet printing for use in point-of-sale systems

This invention relates to a water-based ink for ink-jet thermal printing containing a surface-active agent having, at a certain concentration, a slow dynamic rearrangement. This surfactant system gives the ink a high surface tension under dynamic conditions which grants greater droplet ejection frequencies with respect to the inks usually employed. At the same time, the ink's low static surface tension value means that it has correct paper wettability properties.
