An oscillatory electric signal having an oscillation frequency is processed by time-sampling to generate a sampled oscillatory electric signal. A nonlinear circuit driven by the sampled oscillatory electric signal outputs a hysteretic response signal as a function of the sampled oscillatory electric signal. The hysteretic response signal has a frequency in a first frequency range as a result of an increase in the oscillation frequency of the oscillatory electric signal, and a frequency in a second frequency range as a result of a decrease in the oscillation frequency of the oscillatory electric signal. A detection circuit processes the hysteretic response signal to compute an envelope signal of the hysteretic response signal, perform a comparison of the envelope signal with a threshold, and produce a signal indicative of an increase or a decrease in the oscillation frequency of the oscillatory electric signal as a result of the outcome of the comparison.

Electronic device, corresponding apparatus, method and computer program product

A sensor and/or actuator system in which functional circuitry is embedded in an all organic electromechanical transducer device is disclosed. The electromechanical transducer device exploits the behavior of a flexible sensible ionomeric material sheet as effective sensing or actuating member sandwiched between flexible organic electrodes when undergoing a deformation or being polarized at a certain drive voltage applied to the, electrodes, respectively. The completely embedded all organic system is realized with a process exploiting relatively low cost deposition and patterning techniques. The enhanced flexibility makes the all organic device suitable for new applications in fields ranging from biomedical to aerospace industry.

All-organic sensor/actuator system

The system can be used for the automatic analysis of images, including a matrix of spots, such as images of DNA microarrays after hybridization. The system can be associated&#x2014;and preferably integrated in a single monolithic component implementing VLSI CMOS technology&#x2014;to a sensor for acquiring the images. The system includes a circuit for processing the signals corresponding to the images, configured according to a cellular neural network (CNN) architecture for the parallel analogue processing of signals.

System for the automatic analysis of images such as DNA microarray images

A chaotic signal generator includes a set of elements connected together for generating chaotic signals. The connection scheme may correspond to the circuit generally referred to as Chua's circuit, particularly when implemented as a cellular neural network. Interposed in the connection scheme is at least one switch, such as a MOS transistor. Opening and closing of the switch causes variation in the chaotic dynamics of the generated signals. A command signal applied to the switch may correspond to a modulating signal for transmission on a channel, such as a high noise channel. The modulating signal may be a binary signal, and the command signal may be a switching signal having a frequency that increases or decreases depending on the logic level of the binary signal.

Programmable chaos generator and process for use thereof

A cryptation system for information transmitted through packet switching networks masks the digital information data by combining it at the transmitting station with digital data of a certain cryptation code before transmitting the so-encrypted data through the network. The system also performs an inverse decrypting processing at the receiving station using the same code. The system generates at a transmitting station and at a receiving station, starting from a given pair of password codes or user key, a certain discrete chaotic model or map of the pair of codes or key, producing dynamically updated pairs of values of codes or keys every certain number of processing steps of the chaotic map. The data to be transmitted is masked by way of a logic combination with the current dynamically updated keys at the transmitting station. The data is demasked at the receiving station by way of a logic decomposition of the digital data from the current dynamically updated key thereby returning the digital data to a normal non-encrypted condition.

Cryptation system for packet switching networks based on digital chaotic models

A system for detecting distances for vehicle and robotic applications includes a transducer for generating a transmission signal to be sent in the direction of an obstacle, and for obtaining a receiving signal corresponding to an echo produced by the reflection of the transmission signal off the obstacle. The transducer is driven by a chaos generator, such as a Chua's circuit. The system also includes a correlator for correlating the transmission signal and the receiving signal so that the distance between the obstacle and the transducer is identified by an instant at which the correlation assumes a high value. The transmission signal may be a square-wave signal selectively generated with one first frequency and one second frequency, and jumps between the two frequencies are determined by the instants of emission of the pulses generated by an analog type pulse generator driven by the chaos generator.

System for detecting distances using chaotic signals

A circuit implementing a non-integer order dynamic system includes a neural network that receives at least one input signal and generates therefrom at least one output signal. The input and output signals are related to each by a non-integer order integro-differential relationship through the coefficients of the neural network. A plurality of such circuits, implementing respective non-integer order controllers can be interconnected in an arrangement wherein any of the integral or differential blocks included in one of these circuits generates a signal which is fed to any of the integral or differential blocks of another circuit in the system.

Non-integer order dynamic systems

A control device for a focusing system of a compact disk (CD) reader is provided. The control device uses fuzzy logic incorporated to the audio data processing system of the CD reader which is adapted to detect and segregate a light beam reflected by the surface of the compact disk from an incident light beam to the surface. The fuzzy logic control device receives a focus error signal and a derivative of the focus error. It then calculates, using appropriate membership functions, output signals to provide to a focusing servo-system of the CD reader to adjust the distance of the focal plane from the light beam detecting circuitry.

The invention relates to a modular architecture of a cellular network for improved large-scale integration, of the type which comprises a plurality of fuzzy cellular elements (C.sub.m,n) interconnected to form a matrix of elements having at least m rows and n columns, the row and column numbers describing the location of each element. Each fuzzy processor is adapted for connection to other processors of the same type such that a parallel architecture of the modular type can be implemented. The management of the architecture is facilitated by each submatrix being controlled by an individually dedicated fuzzy processor device.
