The Capillary Dialyzer contains a housing (1) with a bundle of capillaries (2) contained within. There are between the capillaries threads (15) of a textured yarn assigned to the bundle of capillaries without connection to the individual capillaries. In the bundle of capillaries (2) is such a number of threads (15) which are distribued evenly over the cross section of the bundle so that the cross section of the dialyzate chamber is filled with the threads in a resilient and elastic way.

An asymmetrical ultrafiltration membrane based on cellulose triacetate, optionally substituted by up to 30% cellulose diacetate, is made wettable without tendency to embrittlement or shrinkage by adding hydrophobic synthetic silicic acid to the casting solution.

An artificial kidney comprising a filter which is disposed between an artery connection and a vein connection, a collecting means for the filtrate to be discharged from the filter, a means for providing a metered supply of substituate to the purified blood, and a measuring means including two weighing devices; a first of the weighing devices measures the weight of filtrate to be discharged, and a second of the weighing device measures the weight of the substituate; the measuring means controls the providing means whereby the metered supply of substituate is in a fixed weight proportionality to the filtrate weight.
