An apparatus is proposed for controlling an exhaust recirculation device in internal combustion engines, in which a throttle device in an exhaust recirculation line is opened on the condition that the position of the load-adjusting lever of a fuel injection pump associated with the engine falls below a maximum load position and that the adjusting member of an rpm governor of the fuel injection pump is below a predetermined deflection position and/or is operated above a lower rpm value. With an embodiment of this kind, the control of exhaust recirculation quantities can be performed in a simple and functionally reliable manner for the various operational points of the engine with the greatest possible approximation of the permissible values.

An apparatus is proposed for controlling the composition of the operating mixture in internal combustion engines. In this apparatus, a control of the air quantity is effected in accordance with the arbitrarily adjustable fuel quantity by throttling the air intake cross section and by remnant filling of the combustion chambers of the engine by means of recirculated exhaust gas. On the basis of the comparison of the aspirated air quantity with the injected fuel quantity by means of a differential pressure valve, a control pressure building up at a fixed throttle in a discharge line controlled by the differential pressure valve is generated as a control variable for an actuation device of the air throttle valve or for the exhaust recirculation valve in an exhaust recirculation line. On cold starting and warm-up of the engine, a substantially larger fuel quantity is simulated by the diversion of a portion of the compared fuel quantity, and thus a high control pressure is very rapidly attained, with the aid of which the fuel intake cross section is fully opened and the cross section of the exhaust recirculation line is completely closed. This diversion of the fuel is also effected, for instance at full load, whenever the intention is reliable prevention of exhaust recirculation.

Apparatus for controlling the operating mixture composition in internal

A fuel control system for an internal combustion engine with correction for optimum values based on a variety of factors. Characteristic engine data is stored in preferably digital memories with capabilities for interpolation. Upon addressing the engine data fields with input signals related to current operational variables, for example the accelerator pedal position, the control system derives therefrom a nominal air flow rate which is used as the reference value in a control loop that sets the amount of recycled exhaust gas and the fresh air flow. As the actual air flow rate approaches the reference value, the fuel flow is adjusted to insure correct mixtures at all times. In another embodiment, the fuel is supplied on demand but cannot exceed a maximum value except under special override conditions. Several other embodiments and variants are presented.

Method and apparatus for fuel metering in internal combustion engines

A device is proposed for the adjustment of a quantity-metering member of a fuel injection pump in an internal combustion engine with self-ignition, comprising an electric circuit arrangement for a control signal dependent on operating parameters, this signal inffluencing the position of the quantity-metering member via an electromagnetic servo unit wherein the electric circuit arrangement includes at least one series circuit made up of a minimum value selection stage, a maximum value selection stage, and a servo unit controller for the quantity-metering member and the output signals of at least two set-point stages for, in particular, the speed, the smoke limit, equalization, and exhaust gas temperature can be fed to the minimum value selection stage with the maximum value selection stage additionally coupled to a start control stage. In addition to the use of the device as a total controller, i.e., the electric circuit arrangement alone determines the position of the quantity-metering member and no mechanical controller is additionally provided, the device can also be utilized where only a regulated stop for the quantity-metering member, for example a control rod, is present as the control member ('signal mixing'). The purpose of the proposed device is to furnish an electronic speed regulation for idling and for intermediate speeds, beyond the quantity-limiting functions of equalization (limitation of the injection only in dependence on the speed), smoke limit, and exhaust gas temperature limit, in case of a total controller as well as in case of signal mixing with the aid of a controlled servo unit, so that the speed is maintained constant at the preset and/or desired value even in an unstable condition during varying loads, for example, due to the additional connection of auxiliary units.

Apparatus for the adjustment of a quantity-metering member of a fuel

An apparatus is proposed which serves to control the ratio of air to fuel quantity of the operational mixture to be introduced into the combustion chambers of an internal combustion engine. The actual fuel quantity supplied via an injection apparatus (2) and the actual air quantity supplied via the intake manifold of the engine are measured and processed in a control apparatus (21) into a correction adjusting variable. The apparatus further functions with exhaust recirculation, with the aspirated fresh air quantity being dosed and the remnant filling of the gaseous filling introduced into the combustion chambers of the engine is replaced by recirculated exhaust gas. For the purpose of dosing the fresh air, a symmetrical throttle valve (14) is disposed in the intake manifold, whose position is transferred by means of pneumatic servomotor (23) to a second throttle device (12, 32), by means of which finally the quantity of the recirculated exhaust gas is determined.
