A guide element for a pressure system of an internal combustion engine has a hollow body with a guide element inlet (), a guide element outlet () and a longitudinal axis (). The guide element () is designed so that flow can pass through it along its longitudinal axis (). To eliminate disruptive oscillations, the guide element () is of streamlined form in a flow direction from the guide element inlet () to the guide element outlet (). A pressure system for an intake tract of an internal combustion engine and an internal combustion engine with a supercharging unit also are provided.

A method for operating an internal combustion engine () that has at least one cylinder row () with first and second exhaust-gas turbochargers (). Charge air is provided by the first exhaust-gas turbocharger () in single-charger operation, but is provided by the first and second exhaust-gas turbocharger () in two-charger operation. To switch from single-charger to two-charger operation above a load threshold value of the internal combustion engine (), when a speed of the internal combustion engine () reaches or overshoots a threshold value, a charge pressure is increased to build up a torque reserve and a charge pressure reserve and to maintain a driver demand torque. When the charge pressure reaches or overshoots a threshold value, a switch is made from single-charger operation to two-charger operation, and subsequently, the torque reserve and the charge pressure reserve are eliminated.

Method and control device for operating an internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders and an air intake system, with the air intake system formed from at least one distributor pipe, a plurality of intake pipes and at least one plenum, and with the plenum positioned between the distributor pipe and the intake pipes. Here, the combustion air is fed to the air intake system via an air guiding duct which opens out into the distributor pipe, with the charge pressure of the combustion air reduced between the outlet out of the compressor and the inlet into the combustion chamber. A distributor pipe length is dimensioned as a function of an equivalent distributor pipe diameter such that it is possible for a reduction in the charge pressure to be obtained within the air intake system by expansion taking place partially in the plenum in the respective intake pipe and/or within the distributor pipe.

Internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine has a plurality of cylinders and an air intake system. The air intake system is formed from at least one distributor pipe, a plurality of intake pipes, and at least one plenum. The plenum is located between the distributor pipe and the intake pipes. Here, the combustion air is fed to the air intake system via an air guiding duct which opens out into the distributor pipe. The charge pressure of the combustion air is reduced between the outlet out of the compressor and the inlet into the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine. A distributor pipe length is dimensioned as a function of an equivalent distributor pipe diameter such that it is possible for a reduction in the charge pressure to be obtained within the air intake system by way of an expansion, with the expansion taking place partially in the plenum in the respective intake pipe and/or within the distributor pipe.

An air intake installation of an internal combustion engine consisting of an I-shaped distributor member which is formed of two resonant chamber and of a connecting pipe connected to the air filter. Two bypass pipes are additionally located between the two resonant chamber in parallel with the connecting pipe, of which one is also connected with the air filter by way of an intake connection. The other bypass pipe and the connecting pipe are adapted to be closed off with respect to the resonant chamber by way of throttle valves located near the ends of the connecting pipe and of the other bypass pipe. By corresponding actuation and adjustment of the throttle valves, the connecting cross sections between the resonant chambers which effect the resonance can be adjusted in three stages and the resonance point can be displaced correspondingly into different rotational speed ranges.
