The biaxially stretch-oriented multi-layer tubular packaging casing for packaging pasty products, in particular the artificial sausage casing, includes a barrier layer having a reduced permeability to oxygen, an outer layer and an inner layer. The barrier layer comprises a partially aromatic polyamide and/or copolyamide, the outer and inner layers an aliphatic polyamide or copolyamide or a polymer mixture of at least one of the two compounds.

A flat film 11 is delivered from a supply roll 12 to a folding device with a tube forming part 17 and is folded into a tube envelope 23. The butt or overlap seam of the folded tube envelope 23 is covered with a sealing strip 14. The folded tube envelope 23 together with the sealing strip 14 is guided between a partial periphery of a sealing drum 2 and an electrically heated heating band 3 and is sealed under heat and pressure applied by the heating band 3. Electrical current is supplied to the endlessly revolving heating band 3 via feed rollers 6 and 7 from a current source 20 connected, via lines 21 and 22, to sliding contacts 8 which rest against the two sides of each feed roller. An endlessly revolving, cooled steel band 26 is in contact with the seam of the sealed tube envelope 18 and is guided around a cooling roller 9. The sealed tube envelope 18 is detached from the sealing drum 2 in the region of the cooling roller 9, and is guided over the cooling roller 9 and a deflecting roller 10 onto a wind-up roll 19.

A web-shaped or tubular packaging film for use in food packaging applications, particularly as a sausage casing, is comprised of a carrier layer based on fiber-reinforced celulose and a closed thermoplastic, sealable resin coating based on copolymers containing vinylidene chloride (VDC) units. To improve the kink resistance, this resin coating is built up from at least two superposed layers, the first resin coating layer adjacent to the carrier layer being composed of a VDC copolymer forming flexible films and the outer, second resin coating layer being composed of a VDC copolymer forming rigid films. Disclosed is a tubular packaging casing suitable for use as a sausage casing and a flat film for forming same, the flat film being shaped into a tubing and comprising cellulose hydrate, preferably fiber-reinforced cellulose hydrate. The edges of the flat film are bonded by means of a sewing thread, and in the area of the sewing thread, the packaging casing has an increased content of plasticizer and, optionally, also an increased moisture content. Furthermore, a flat film for producing the packaging casing is disclosed, which has an increased content of plasticizer and optionally also of water along its two edges.

Tubular packaging casing

Disclosed is a tubular casing of fiber-reinforced regenerated cellulose comprising a film web which is curved to form a tube. The edge regions of the film web, which run parallel to the longitudinal axis, abut or overlap slightly and are sealed by means of a film strip which covers both the edge regions. The film web and the film strip composed of the same material have, in the wet remoistened stage, a breaking strength of about 15 to 30 N/mm.sup.2 and an elongation at break of about 30 to 50% in the longitudinal direction of the web, and a breaking strength of about 15 to 35 N/mm.sup.2 and an elongation at break of about 30 to 50% in the transverse direction of the web. The breaking strength in the transverse direction of the web is equal to or greater than that in the longitudinal direction of the web. On its entire surface facing the film strip, the tubular casing has a substantially gas-impermeable and sealable layer, as has the film strip on the surface which comes into contact with the tubular casing. The film web is produced from viscose, and is prevented from shrinking during the process and is stretched in the transverse direction during drying. The tubular casing finds particular application as a sausage casing.

This invention relates to a biaxially stretched and longitudinally afterstretched thin-walled tubular film of polyethylene terephthalate having a tensile stress of 40 to 60 kg/mm.sup.2 and a tear resistance of 40 to 70 kg/mm.sup.2 in the longitudinal direction, and an elongation at break of 350 to 800% in the transverse direction. The invention also relates to a process for the production of the film.
