The invention relates to a mixture-compressing internal-combustion engine with secondary-air injection and with air-mass measurement as well as with an injection valve sequential fuel injection and air assistance, the air line provided for air assistance being equipped with a shut-off valve opening in the starting and the warmup phase of the internal-combustion engine.

The invention relates to a direct fuel injection method for a diesel engine in which a preset quantity of fuel is introduced into a combustion space via a fuel injection nozzle in a preinjection and in a main injection which is separate from the preinjection. To achieve a short ignition delay with lowest possible specific fuel consumption during this process, the beginning of the preinjection occurs within the range of 10.degree.-16.degree. or of 20.degree.-30.degree. crank angle before top dead center, depending on speed, and the beginning of the main injection occurs within the range of 2.degree. after top dead center to 15.degree. before top dead center, the interval between the end of the preinjection and the beginning of the main injection being within the range of 3.degree. to 14.degree. or of 3.degree. to 26.degree. crank angle before top dead center and the preinjection quantity is 10% to 20% or 1% to 5% of the quantity of fuel preset in each case, depending on load.

Direct fuel injection method for a diesel engine

A drive unit comprising a reciprocating-piston type internal combustion engine and a transmission and output shaft is disclosed in which the sound-generating parts of the internal combustion engine are combined to form one driving mechanism body which is supported via an element which transmits power and isolates structure-borne sound, at the engine casing constructed as a noise capsule. To prevent sound from being radiated from the transmission casing towards the outside and structure-borne sound from being transmitted to the noise capsule, the transmission casing is rigidly connected to the driving mechanism carrier and the noise capsule also encloses the entire transmission casing.

A piston internal combustion engine with at least one cylinder and with a cooling system coordinated thereto that operates with a fluid medium and includes an oil-spray cooling system; at partial engine loads, the cooling output is reduced by disconnection of a part of the oil-spray cooling system so that the heat content in the combustion space increases while the specific fuel consumption is reduced and the warm-up period of the engine after the start is reduced.

An installation for preheating the suction mixture of a carburetor internal combustion engine with a heat pipe extending from a place of the exhaust gas line system to a place of the suction pipe system and with a heat-absorption zone, on the one hand, and a heat emission zone on the other; the heat pipe leads from its heat-absorption zone to a lower part of the suction pipe directly adjoining the carburetor outlet and in its heat emission zone partly surrounds with its flat condenser jacket from below the flow channel of this pipe along a wall surface area while leaving free the main part of the pipe cross section.

An injection installation for internal combustion engines, especially for mixture-compressing internal combustion engines operating with charge stratification, which essentially consists of an injection pump and of injection valves coordinated to the cylinders of the internal combustion engine; a metering mechanism is thereby arranged in each injection valve which with a feed of the injection pump supplies a metered quantity of fuel to the nozzle discharge of the injection valve while the injection pump is so constructed that it always supplies a multiple of the metered quantity of fuel independently of load and rotational speed of the internal combustion engine whereby the excess quantity of fuel flows back into the fuel tank by way of a return line connected to the injection valve.

Injection installation for internal combustion engines

A four-cycle reciprocating-piston internal combustion engine having a main combustion chamber connected by a spill port with an unflushed ignition chamber. A fuel injection nozzle and a spark plug are arranged at the ignition chamber at angles with respect to one another. Fuel supply means are also provided at the main combustion chamber for supplying a substantial majority of the fuel consumed by the engine during operation. In order to maximize the effectiveness of the ignition chamber, while minimizing the high peak pressures, the ignition chamber and spill port are constructed so as to have an extensive homogenization of the fuel proportion injected into the ignition chamber. In preferred embodiments, the ratio of the volume of the ignition chamber to the total compression volume of the engine is in the range of 0.10 to 0.30 and the ratio of the volume of the spill port to the total compression volume is in the range of 0.01 to 0.25. Further, the injection nozzle provides between 2 and 10% of the total maximum full-load quantity of fuel for the engine and the injection of fuel into the ignition chamber is initiated during the intake stroke movement of the piston bounding the main combustion chamber.
