System and method for profile measurement are provided. The profile measurement system includes a light projector, an imaging device, a control system, and a processing unit. The light projector includes a light source, a mask, and an optical system. An aperture of the mask allows a portion of light to pass through and generates a pattern. The optical system includes a variable focal length lens element configured to project the pattern at different projection distances. The imaging device is configured to capture images of the pattern projected at the different projection distances. The control system is configured to control a projection distance of the light projector and a focus distance of the imaging device. The processing unit is configured to obtain in-focus pixels in the captured images, generate mask images, reconstruct a large depth of field pattern image based on the captured images and reconstruct the object profile.

Profile measurement system and profile measurement method

A surface topography optical measuring system including image capture modules, a control module and a computation module is provided. Each image capture module includes an electronically controlled focal length tunable lens, an optical assembly and an image sensor, wherein the image capture modules respectively capture images at different heights between a lowest and a highest surfaces of an object. The control module is coupled to the image capture modules to independently control the image capture modules. The computation module is coupled to the control module and the image sensor of each image capture module, wherein the computation module perform calibration of the surface topography optical measuring system and assesses in-focused pixels in the captured images to measure a height difference between a highest and a lowest surfaces of the object or between any surfaces of interest of the object. A surface topography optical measuring method is also provided.

Surface topography optical measuring system and surface topography optical measuring method

An apparatus and a method for dual mode depth measurement are provided. The apparatus is used for measuring a depth information of a specular surface in a depth from defocus (DFD) mode or measuring a depth information of a textured surface in a depth from focus (DFF) mode. The apparatus includes a light source, a controller, a processor, a lighting optical system, an imaging optical system, a beam splitter and a camera. The controller is for switching between the depth from defocus mode and the depth from focus mode. The lighting optical system is used to focus a light from the light source on an object surface in the depth from defocus mode, and the lighting optical system is used to illuminate the object surface with a uniform irradiance in the depth from focus mode.

Apparatus and method for dual mode depth measurement

A method and a system for depth selective segmentation of an object are provided. The method comprises the following steps. An image is captured in an invisible domain of the optical spectrum by illuminating a scene of interest under an illumination corresponding to said invisible domain of the optical spectrum by an invisible light illumination unit. A binary mask is obtained from the image according to a threshold. Part of the image is eliminated by applying the binary mask to the image, and resulting in another image. The threshold is changed and another binary mask is obtained. The latest obtained binary mask is applied to the latest captured image. The step of changing of the threshold, the step of obtaining a mask and the step of applying the latest obtained binary mask on the latest captured image are performed at least once.

Method and system for depth selective segmentation of object

A method and a system for measuring a distance from a reference point to an object are provided. The method comprises the following steps. At least one image of an object is captured through a lens comprising a phase mask composed of a parallel plate and a wedge prism. At least two corresponding regions of interest (ROI) are obtained from the images. The regions of interest correspond to identical portions of the object. The relative coordinates between corresponding locations within the corresponding regions of interest is measured. The distance is calculated according to the relative coordinates.

Method and system for measuring distance

Methods for generating stereoscopic views from monoscopic endoscope images and systems using the same are provided. First, monoscopic images are obtained by capturing images of organs in an operating field via an endoscope. A background depth map of the operating field is obtained for each image. An instrument depth map corresponding to an instrument is obtained for each image, wherein the instrument is inserted in a patient's body cavity. The background depth maps and the instrument depth maps are merged to generate an integrated depth map for each image. Stereoscopic views are generated according to the monoscopic images and the integrated depth maps.

Methods for generating stereoscopic views from monoscopic endoscope images and systems using the same

Methods for generating depth maps from monocular still image or monocular video and systems using the same are provided. First, an initial depth map is estimated or arbitrary defined. For video inputs, motion information can be used, for still image the initial background can be arbitrary set by default, chosen by the user or can be estimated. Estimation of the initial depth map can be based on a contrast map or a blur map. The initial depth map defines initial depth values for the respective pixels of the monocular image or monocular motion picture frames. The respective pixels of the original image or video frame data are mapped to the initial depth map according to positions of the pixels, in order to obtain corresponding initial depth values. An image data space of the image is subdivided into a plurality of sub-image spaces, and the initial depth value of each of the pixels of the image is filtered according to the initial depth values of the pixels located in the same sub-image space, in order to obtain depth information for the pixels.

Method for generating depth maps from monocular images and systems using the same

A method and an apparatus for designing an image restoration filter and a method and an apparatus for restoring an image by using the image restoration filter are provided. A test image is captured by an imaging system to obtain image information of the test image. The image restoration filter is then calculated according to original image information of the test image and the image information obtained by the imaging system through a numerical method, such that the obtained image information after being processed by the image restoration filter has a better similarity to the original image information. Thereafter, an image captured by the imaging system is processed by using the image restoration filter as a kernel, so as to resolve the problems of image blur and distortion caused by the optical path and the imaging system.

Method and apparatus for designing restoration filter, and method and apparatus for restoring image using the restoration filter

A distance evaluation method for evaluating distances from an observation point to objects within an arbitrary detectable range in a scene is disclosed. The method includes the following steps. First, a focus distance is set to correspond to a lower or higher limit of a chosen detection range. Next, an image is then captured with an image acquisition system, wherein transfer function of the image acquisition system depends on the focus distance. The captured image of the scene is segmented. A blur metric is computed for each image segment of the captured image. The blur metric is associated with the distance of the objects from the observation point in each image segment.

Methods for evaluating distances in a scene and apparatus and machine readable medium using the same

A method and a system for developing a new-view image from an original image with a corresponding depth map is provided. The original image has a plurality of original pixels and the new-view image has at least a new-view pixel. The method for developing the new-view image comprises the following steps. According to a corresponding depth value of each original pixel, a corresponding position of each original pixel corresponding to the new-view pixel is estimated. An occupancy proportion of each original pixel occupying the new-view pixel is estimated according to the corresponding position of each original pixel. An estimated color of an estimated partial pixel of the new-view pixel is initially obtained according to the occupancy proportion of one selected original pixel. The estimated partial pixel is updated according to the occupancy proportions and estimated occlusion proportion of the other selected original pixels one by one.
