Disclosed is a process for the concurrent production of hydrogen and sulphur from a HS-containing gas stream, with zero emissions. The method comprises the thermal oxidative cracking of HS so as to form Hand S. Preferably, the oxidation is conducted using oxygen-enriched air, preferably pure oxygen. The ratio HS/Oin the feedstock is higher than 2:1, preferably in the range of 3:1-5:1.

Zero emissions sulphur recovery process with concurrent hydrogen production

A process for producing synthesis gas (syngas) comprising the endothermic reaction between COand HS, wherein the energetic supply is provided by the exothermic oxidation of a small portion of HS to SOaccording to the following reaction scheme: R2: HS+1.5O&#x2192;SO+HO said process being carried out according to the following overall theoretical reaction scheme R1, not taking into account the aforementioned exothermic reaction R2, R1: CO+2HS&#x2192;CO+H+S+HO wherein the amount of fed oxygen is comprised between 5% and 25% by volume over the total volume of fed reactants gaseous mixture.
