Methods of implanting a prosthesis to repair a joint include exposing a first bone of the joint; resecting an end portion of the first bone to form a resected end defining a resection plane; forming a concavity in the resected end portion of the first bone using a shaping tool, the concavity extending at least through a full hemispherical arc; selecting a diameter of the prosthesis to be implanted; and implanting a prosthesis having the selected diameter in the concavity.

An orthopedic milling burr includes a hub, wherein the burr is configured for rotation about an axis of the hub, the hub including: a bore adapted to receive an orthopedic guide pin, wherein the bore is centered on the axis of the hub and passes axially through the hub; a transverse slot that extends axially through the hub's length connecting a proximal end of the hub to a distal end of the hub and providing an opening to the bore; a milling body that extends transversely from the hub and consists of a crown portion spaced radially from the hub and connected to the hub by one or more radial lugs; and a counterweight portion that extends transversely from the hub and arranged diametrically opposite the crown portion.

Orthopedic reamer for bone preparation, particularly glenoid preparation

An orthopedic milling machine includes an orthopedic guide pin including a bone engaging end and a burr including a hub, the burr being configured for rotation about an axis of the hub, the hub including a bore adapted to receive the orthopedic guide pin, and the burr can be moved laterally toward the guide pin at any location along the length of the guide pin until the guide pin is positioned in the bore.

Methods of implanting a prosthesis to repair a joint include displacing a first bone from the joint formed by an intersection between the first bone and a second bone. An end portion of the first bone is resected to define a resected end. A concavity is formed into the resected end using a shaping tool. The bone is compacted to form a support layer lining the concavity. The prosthesis is implanted in the concavity against the support layer without attaching the prosthesis to the support layer. The joint is reformed with the prosthesis such that the prosthesis remains unattached to the support layer and the first and second bones articulate about the prosthesis.

This set comprises glenoid components that each include a body defining, on two of its opposite faces, respectively, a joint surface, intended to cooperate with a humeral head, and a bearing surface bearing against the socket of a shoulder blade. In this set, the glenoid components are provided in several different sizes, respectively defined by the dimensions of the joint surface of their body. At least two glenoid components of which the bearing surfaces respectively have different dimensional geometries are provided so as to allow the surgeon to improve the durability of the mechanical cooperation between the implanted component and the operated socket.

Set of glenoid components for a shoulder prosthesis

Embodiments of the invention include an orthopedic milling machine for preparing a glenoid bone. The milling machine uses a hub and a sleeve. The hub includes reliefs arranged to cut or mill the bone and the sleeve couples to the hub to transfer rotational motion to the hub. The hub has an axial bore sized to receive an orthopedic guide pin. The hub also has a lateral passage slot that allows the hub to move laterally towards the guide pin in order to place the guide pin within the axial bore.

This shoulder prosthesis glenoid component () has on one of its faces an articulation surface (S) adapted to cooperate with a humeral head and having, on an opposite face (S) adapted to be immobilized on the glenoid cavity (G) of a shoulder, a keel () for anchoring it in the glenoid cavity (G). A glenoid component for a shoulder prosthesis adapted to be mounted in a glenoid cavity of a shoulder. An elongated keel adapted to engage with the glenoid cavity is attached to the internal surface of the base. The keel extends along a longitudinal axis of the base. The keel includes various configurations of transverse members extending away from the longitudinal axis. The surgeon selects a glenoid component with a keel and transverse member configuration that is anatomically optimized for the patient. Glenoid components properly optimized provide mechanical strength and stability superior to prior art devices. The glenoid components disclosed herein are particularly well suited for use in an anatomical total shoulder prosthesis, but may are also suited to partial shoulder prostheses and reverse shoulder prostheses.
