The invention relates to a process for the preparation of crosslinked polymers bearing nitroxide groups, which are prepared by a method frequently called atom transfer radical addition polymerization (ATRA). A further aspect of the invention is the use of such polymeric crosslinked nitroxides as stabilizers for polymers against the detrimental influences of heat and UV light, as stabilizers against premature polymerization of vinyl aromatic monomers and as active electrode materials in secondary batteries.

Process for the preparation of crosslinked nitroxide polymers

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of secondary nitroxide radicals from their corresponding secondary amines by oxidation with an organic peracid, comprising the steps a) adding to a reaction vessel a secondary amine, optionally together with an organic solvent and in one batch a base selected from the group consisting of alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium bicarbonates and alkaline earth metal or ammonium carbonates or mixtures thereof in the form of a solid together with water or as an aqueous slurry; b) dosing a peracid under stirring to the reaction mixture in an amount of 1.0 to 2.5 mol per mol of secondary amine; and c) isolating the organic phase.

Process for the oxidation of secondary amines into the corresponding nitroxides

The invention relates to novel N-substituted imides and polymerizable compositions comprising these N-substituted imides. The invention further relates to the use of N-substituted imides as polymerization initiators. The imides are compounds of the formula (I) and (II) wherein n is 1 or 2; m is 1 or 2; Rand Rare each, independently of one another, hydrogen, C-Calkyl, C-C-alkenyl C-Caryl, aralkyl, C-Ccycloalkyl, each of which may be substituted by halogen, C-C-alkyl, hydroxy, C-Calkoxy, carbonyl, C-Calkoxycarbonyl; or Rand Rtogether with the adjacent &#x2014;CO&#x2014;N&#x2014;CO&#x2014; group may form a monocyclic, bicyclic or polycyclic ring, said ring having up to 50 non hydrogen atoms and wherein said ring may contain the structural element (formula III) more than once; Rif n is 1, is C-Calkyl, C-Caryl, aralkyl, C-Ccycloalkyl, ORor SR, NRR; wherein Rif n is 2, is C-Calkylene, C-Carylene, xylylene Rand R, correspond to Rand R; Rif n is 1, is hydrogen, C-Calkyl, C-Caryl, aralkyl, C-Ccycloalkyl, NRR; wherein Rif n is 2, is C-Calkylene, C-Carylene, xylylene; Ris hydrogen, C-Calkyl, C-Caryl, aralkyl, C-Ccycloalkyl, each of which may be substituted by halogen, C-C-alkyl, hydroxy, C-Calkoxy, carbonyl, C-Calkoxy-carbonyl; or Rand Ror Rand Rform together with the N-atom attached to Ra 5-6 membered ring, optionally interrupted by &#x2014;NH&#x2014;, &#x2014;N(C-Calkyl)-, &#x2014;O&#x2014; and/or S-atoms. 

N-substituted imides as polymerization initiators

The instant invention relates to novel alkoxyamine initiators/regulators containing an ethylenically unsaturated, radically polymerizable group. The compounds are useful for the preparation of complex polymeric architectures. Further aspects of the invention are a polymerizable composition and a polymerization process comprising the alkoxyamine initiators/regulators, a macroinitiator obtainable by said polymerization process and a process for polymerizing with the macroinitiator.

Alkoxyamines containing a radically polymerizable group

The instant invention pertains to polymeric alkoxyamines, which are prepared by atom transfer radical addition polymerization (ATRA). Further aspects of the invention are a process for their preparation and their use as light stabilizers, flame retardants and polymerization regulators/initiators in controlled radical polymerization processes. Yet another aspect of the invention are novel monomeric intermediate alkoxyamines, which are also useful as polymerization regulators/initiators.

Polymeric alkoyamines prepared by atom transfer radical addition (ATRA)

The present invention relates to selected 4-imino-N-alkoxy-polyalkyl-peperidine compounds preparation, a polymerizable composition comprising a) at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer and b) a 4-imino-N-alkoxy-polyalkyl-piperidine compound. Further aspects of the present invention are a process for polymerizing ethylenically unsaturated monomers, and the use of 4-imino-N-alkoxy-polyalkyl-piperidine compounds for controlled polymerization. The intermediate N-oxyl derivatives, a composition of the N-oxyl derivatives with ethylenically unsaturated monomers and a free radical initiator, as well as a process for polymerization are also subjects of the present invention
