The present invention is directed to a method for treating a surface of a filled microporous membrane. The microporous membrane includes a polyolefinic matrix, inorganic filler distributed throughout the matrix, and a network of interconnecting pores throughout the membrane. The method includes sequentially (1) contacting at least one surface of the membrane with a treatment composition of a silane-functional polyamine compound having at least one alkoxy silane group, such that the silane-functional polyamine compound is in intimate contact with the filler present in the matrix; and (2) subjecting the membrane of (1) to conditions sufficient to effect a condensation reaction between the inorganic filler and the silane-functional polyamine compound. Treated membranes also are provided.

Methods for treating filled microporous membranes

Microporous materials that include thermoplastic organic polyolefin polymer (e.g., ultrahigh molecular weight polyolefin, such as polyethylene), particulate filler (e.g., precipitated silica), and a network of interconnecting pores, are described. The microporous materials of the present invention possess controlled volatile material transfer properties. The microporous materials can have a density of at least 0.8 g/cm; and a volatile material transfer rate, from the volatile material contact surface to the vapor release surface of the microporous material, of from 0.04 to 0.6 mg/(hour*cm). In addition, when volatile material is transferred from the volatile material contact surface to the vapor release surface, the vapor release surface is substantially free of volatile material in liquid form.

Microporous material

A treated vapor permeable microporous membrane includes: a microporous membrane having a first side and a second side opposite the first side. The membrane includes a thermoplastic organic polymer having a polyolefin. The membrane defines a network of interconnecting pores communicating substantially throughout the membrane. The treated membrane further includes finely divided, particulate filler distributed throughout the membrane and a first hydrophobic/oleophobic material over at least a portion of the first side. A method of preparing the treated vapor permeable microporous membrane is also disclosed.

Treated membrane for fragrance delivery

The present invention is directed to a method for treating a surface of a filled microporous membrane. The microporous membrane includes a polyolefinic matrix, inorganic filler distributed throughout the matrix, and a network of interconnecting pores throughout the membrane. The method includes sequentially (1) contacting the membrane with a first treatment composition comprising an epoxy-silane which is in intimate contact with the inorganic filler; (2) subjecting the membrane of (1) to conditions sufficient to effect a first reaction between the inorganic filler and the silane groups of the epoxy-silane compound; (3) contacting the membrane of (2) with a second treatment composition comprising polyalkylene polyamine, an amine functional polysaccharide and/or an amino silane; and (4) subjecting the membrane of (3) to conditions sufficient to effect a second reaction. Treated membranes also are provided.

Filled microporous membranes

Provided is a microporous material, e.g., a microporous sheet material, having a matrix of polyolefin, finely-divided, substantially water insoluble particulate filler, a network of interconnecting pores communicating throughout the microporous material, and at least one retrospectively identifiable taggant material embedded within the matrix, optionally the at least one taggant being unique to an end user for the microporous material, wherein the polyolefin is present in the microporous material in an amount of 20 to 35 weight percent, based on the weight of the microporous material. The taggant material provides a marker, signature or code that is capable of retrospective identification by machine, instrument or by the naked eye. Articles including the microporous material and processes for preparing the microporous material also are provided.

Microporous material containing a security feature

Provided is a microporous material including a polyolefin matrix material; finely divided, substantially water-insoluble filler distributed throughout the matrix material, where the filler includes a positive amount of titanium dioxide; a network of interconnecting pores communicating throughout the microporous material; and optionally, a contrasting enhancing amount of a contrast enhancing material. The sum of the weight percent of the titanium dioxide and the weight percent of the optional contrast enhancing material is at least 3 weight percent based on total weight of the microporous material. Multilayer articles having a layer of the microporous material also are provided.

Laser markable microporous material

Provided is a method of producing a microporous sheet material of a polymeric matrix of polyolefin, with finely divided and substantially water-insoluble filler distributed throughout the matrix, and a network of interconnecting pores communicating throughout the microporous material. The method includes: (a) forming a mixture of polyolefin, filler and a processing plasticizer composition; (b) extruding the mixture to form a continuous sheet; and (c) contacting the continuous sheet with a non-flammable extraction fluid composition to extract the processing plasticizer composition from the continuous sheet. The extraction fluid has a boiling point of 75&#xb0; C. or less, and is essentially free of trichloroethylene. The microporous sheet material has Tensile Strength equal to or greater than 800 kPa. A microporous sheet material also is provided.

The present invention includes curable compositions adapted to coat substrates. In one embodiment, the composition includes an antioxidant selected from terpene materials; vitamin materials different from the terpene materials; and combinations thereof in an amount of about 0.00001 weight percent to about 5 weight percent based upon the weight of the substrate. In another embodiment, the composition includes (a) an antioxidant selected from terpene materials; vitamin materials different from the terpene materials; and combinations thereof in an amount effective to inhibit oxidation of the composition; and (b) a film-forming material capable of forming a substantially uniform continuous coating on the substrate. A web of nonwoven fibers and thermoplastic matrix polymer is provided that is capable of yielding improved physical properties for articles molded from the web. Also provided are the aqueous dispersion to produce the web and the dried web as a laminate so that it can be molded into shaped articles. The web in addition to the fibers and thermoplastic matrix polymer has a chemically modified thermoplastic polymer. This material can be added to the web by direct addition to the aqueous dispersion or by presence in a mat binder which is applied to the web. Generally, the amount of the chemically modified thermoplastic material present in the web is in the range of around 0.1 to 20 weight percent of the web. When the chemically coupled thermoplastic polymer is added as a mat binder, it can be accompanied by an electron donating organo coupling agent, a stabilizing agent such as one or more carboxylic acids and/or anhydrides which may be monocarboxylic, polycarboxylic aliphatic or cyclic. Additionally, the mat binder can have a film-forming polymer.

Chemically treated glass shapes have a moisture-reduced residue of a chemical treating composition having: a first film forming polymer that is a thermoplastic polyester film forming polymer, a second film forming polymer that is an acrylic-type copolymer, at least one organosilane coupling agent selected from epoxy functional organosilane coupling agents and amino-functional organosilane coupling agents and mixtures thereof, at least one cationic lubricant and a carrier. The ratio of amounts of the first film forming polymer to the second film forming polymer is in the range of around 1:1 to 99:1.
