A system and method that include receiving a digital well plan and issuing drilling instructions for drilling a well based at least in part on the digital well plan. The system and method also include comparing acquired information associated with drilling of the well with well plan information of the digital well plan to determine if there is at least one deviation from the digital well plan. The system and method additionally include performing a search of a database upon determining that there is the at least one deviation, wherein the search generates results that comprise at least one outcome that is classified as being a positive outcome or a negative outcome. The system and method further include training a neural network as a machine learning model based on the results to electronically adjust the digital well plan to increase a likelihood of at least one positive outcome.

Well planning system

A system and method that include receiving constraints that are specified as points in a three-dimensional coordinate system that represent a geological environment that includes a surface position and a subterranean portion of a wellsite and receiving data collected from at least one offset well that is located near the wellsite that pertain to a geology and at least one condition related to drilling of the at least one offset well and determining a set of points through which a wellbore is extendable at the wellsite. The system and method additionally include generating at least one well plan that is based on the constraints and the set of points for constructing a well associated with the wellbore. The system and method further include transmitting the at least one well plan to a drilling system to execute the at least one well plan to control drilling equipment to construct the well.

Well planning and drilling service

A method for designing a well, including: determining a first well construction discipline for a first participant and an authority level for the first participant within the first well construction discipline; obtaining a plurality of rules corresponding to the first well construction discipline and the authority level for the first participant within the first well construction discipline; operating, based on the plurality of rules, an interface that restricts decision options for the first participant; receiving a decision associated with the well and based on the interface from the first participant; and updating a design of the well based on the decision.

A method can include receiving a digital well plan; issuing drilling instructions for drilling a well based at least in part on the digital well plan; comparing acquired information associated with drilling of the well with well plan information of the digital well plan; and outputting results based at least in part on the comparing of the acquired information with the well plan information.

An improved approach to creating a plan for a well. A user receives an initial well plan for a planned well and uses the initial well plan as a starting point for alternate well plans. This is done by creating a copy of the initial well plan, allowing the various uses to make changes to the initial well plan, and executing various automatic validation routines on the alternate designs. These validation routines can provide estimated times and costs to complete the planned well use the alternate well plan. The approach can also involved displaying the estimated times and costs of the different candidate well plans. The user can then select one of the candidate well plans as the master well plan. As replanning is done during the operations, this replanning information, along with the actual executed actions, is captured and stored.

Approaches to creating and evaluating multiple candidate well plans

A method can include receiving information that includes well trajectory information, wellsite equipment information and driller information; based at least in part on the information, determining a level of detail of human executable well plan instructions; based at least in part on the information, generating a well plan where the well plan includes human executable well plan instructions based on the determined level of detail; and outputting the well plan.

A method can include receiving data for a borehole trajectory in a formation, a length of pipe, and a bottom hole assembly that includes a mud motor and a bit; generating a sequence for operation of the mud motor using a model of at least the bit, where the sequence includes a sliding mode and a rotary mode for drilling the borehole in the formation a distance less than or equal to the length of pipe; and drilling the borehole according to the sequence.

A method can include selecting a location in an area that includes offset wells; determining design parameters of the offset wells; modeling a modeled well based at least in part on the design parameters of the offset wells to generate design parameters for the modeled well; and determining design parameters for a well at the selected location based at least in part on a portion of the design parameters of the offset wells and based at least in part on a portion of the design parameters for the modeled well.

A method can include receiving information associated with an oilfield service; analyzing at least a portion of the information based at least in part on an oilfield services database that includes individual data structures that characterize individual oilfield services; and, based at least in part on the analyzing, outputting at least one additional oilfield service as a recommended oilfield service.

A method can include asynchronously receiving a well trajectory as part of a well plan, a fluid plan as part of the well plan and a bottom hole assembly plan as part of the well plan where the well trajectory is based at least in part on information associated with a geologic environment; asynchronously determining coherency metrics as to dependencies between the well trajectory, the fluid plan and the bottom hole assembly plan; and, based at least in part on the coherency metrics, issuing one or more messages that call for adjusting one or more of the well trajectory, the fluid plain and the bottom home assembly plan.

Distributed well engineering and planning

A method can include receiving well plan information that includes a reservoir target associated with a reservoir of a subterranean environment; based at least in part on characteristics of the subterranean environment, determining well trajectory metrics that comprise a geometrical metric; determining a weighted metric based at least in part on weighting of the well trajectory metrics; and, based at least in part on an assessment of the weighted metric, outputting directional drilling information for a well trajectory to the reservoir target.
