In one aspect, a method includes identifying a first user viewing a first set of posts at a social networking service, the first set of posts including one or more posts, determining that the level of engagement of the first user at the social networking service is below a predetermined level, generating a second set of posts in response to determining that the level of engagement of the first user at the social networking service is below a predetermined level, the second set of posts including one or more posts not previously seen by the user and providing the second set of posts for display to the user. Multiple social streams

A system comprising a processor and a memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the system to identify a page on a website, retrieve a stream of posts related to the page, determine whether the page is dynamic, in response to the page being determined to be dynamic, modify the stream of posts related to the page biased toward including more recent posts, generate a user interface element for display of the stream of related content; and provide the user interface element for presentation to the user. The disclosure also includes similar methods and computer program products.

Dynamic page classifier for ranking content

In one aspect, a method includes retrieving terms associated with a topic and analyzing the terms based on search results of user queries for content relating to the topic. The method includes selecting one or more terms from the terms based on the analysis. The method includes generating a label from the selected one or more terms and applying the label to a content item relating to the topic. Generating content labels according to user search queries

Aspects of the subject technology relate to mixing an aggregated content data structure into a content stream. A first plurality of aggregated content data structures is be received, each comprising a group of content items for display in a content stream of a user and being associated with a respective score. A first aggregated content data structure may be selected from among the first plurality of aggregated content data structures based on the scores and predetermined type target percentages associated with the user. The first aggregated content data structure may be mixed into a content stream associated with a user, and the content stream provided for display.

Mixing content into a content stream

In one aspect, a method includes receiving an indication of a request from a user to view a stream associated with the user, generating a request for one or more items visible to the user for display within the stream, the request including a search query identifying search criteria including one or more tokens, the one or more tokens including at least a user token identifying the user, receiving one or more items in response to the request, the one or more items including at least one of the one or more tokens and further being visible to the user and providing the one or more items for display to the user within the stream in response to the request. Query-based stream

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for augmenting clusters of news articles with translated news articles. In one aspect, a method includes obtaining data characterizing a first cluster of electronically published news articles in a presentation language, wherein the data characterizing the first cluster of news articles comprises one or more terms in the presentation language and region data identifying a first geographical region associated with the first cluster; generating translated terms by translating one or more of the terms from the presentation language to a first language, wherein the first language corresponds to the first geographical region; and obtaining one or more news articles in the first language in response to a search query derived from the one or more translated terms.

Translated news

Embodiments include identifying a plurality of communication sessions, each of the plurality of communication sessions having multiple participants. Embodiments may also include applying at least one parameter to each of the communication sessions and determining a non-adjusted value for the at least one parameter for each of the communication sessions. Embodiments may further include determining whether the at least one parameter has been assigned a predetermined weight adjustment. If the at least one parameter has been assigned a weight adjustment, adjusting the value for the at least one parameter based upon the predetermined weight assigned to each of the at least one parameter. Embodiments may include generating a combined value for each of the communication sessions based upon, at least in part, one or more of the non-adjusted value and the adjusted value and ranking each of the communication sessions based upon, at least in part, the combined value.

System and method for ranking conversations

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for presenting search results. One of the methods includes obtaining, based on a search request, search results that comprise a first user profile and a second user profile. The method includes determining a popularity difference between a first popularity associated with the first user profile and a second popularity associated with the second user profile. The method includes determining that the popularity difference exceeds a threshold. The method includes based on determining that the popularity difference exceeds the threshold, causing the search results to be presented in a display area such that the first user profile is emphasized relative to the second user profile within the display area.

Presenting search results

Techniques for suggesting a tag for content may include the following: receiving, from a member of a social network, an entry in a display field along with an indication that the entry is for a post; after receiving the entry and the indication, identifying content by performing a search using at least some of the entry and information about the member of the social network; obtaining tags corresponding to the identified content; ranking the tags; outputting the ranked tags as suggestions to include with the display field; and augmenting the entry by adding a selected tag to the display field.

Suggesting a tag for content

Techniques include obtaining ranges of content relevance scores for different collections of content; generating a normalized range based on the ranges of content relevance scores; and normalizing a particular range of a particular collection of content including: generating a distribution of content relevance scores for the collection of content; identifying portions in the distribution; and generating a mapping of portions from the distribution to portions in the normalized range.
