Light-based systems for communicating information associated with service orders and/or the identification of personal objects are disclosed. A personal mobile electronic communication device is used in conjunction with a communication network and a lighting controller to communicate service orders by lighting with one or more individually controllable luminaries in a lighting network. A personal mobile electronic communication device is, alternatively or additionally, used in conjunction with a communication network, a memory, and a lighting controller controlling to indicate by lighting whether there is an association between the personal mobile electronic communication device and a personal item.

Systems and apparatus for the light-based communication of service orders and personal objects identification

Light-based systems for communicating information associated with service orders and/or the identification of personal objects are disclosed. A personal mobile electronic communication device is used in conjunction with a communication network and a lighting controller to communicate service orders by lighting with one or more individually controllable luminaires in a lighting network. A personal mobile electronic communication device is, alternatively or additionally, used in conjunction with a communication network, and a lighting controller controlling an illumination proximate to the personal mobile electronic communication device such that the illumination proximate to the personal mobile electronic communication device visually indicates the service order.

The invention relates to a lighting unit, comprising a first light element formed as a conventional light source, a second light element formed as a plurality of LEDs and a lamp cap. According to the invention the second light element is formed as a separate LED module with a fitting and a second lamp cap whereby the first and the second light elements are removably attached via the fitting and the second lamp cap, the fitting and second lamp cap providing electrical and mechanical connection between both light elements. The invented lighting unit is cost-effective and has better mixing possibilities of the light produced by both light elements.

This invention relates to a luminaire (), which has a housing () with an opening () at a light output side, a reflector () mounted in the housing, and facing the light output side, a louver () mounted at the opening of the housing, and LEDs () mounted in the louver, such that the emitted LED light exits the luminaire only after reflection against the reflector, thereby providing indirect light output.

The road-marking system is described for influencing a flow of traffic consisting of vehicles traveling over a roadway. The road-marking system comprises a plurality of road marking units. The road marking units are provided with at least one light source for emitting light in the direction of a driver of the vehicle In operation, the road-marking system generates a guidance light which seemingly moves along with the flow of traffic and is generated by suitably switching on and off the light source in the road marking units. According to the invention spectral characteristics of the light emitted by the guidance light is dependent on the angle under which the light is emitted, wherein the speed of the guidance light is independent of the flow of the traffic.

A system for effecting merging of a first vehicle traveling in a first roadway with successive vehicles traveling in a second roadway, said system including: a sensor capable of detecting the movement of the successive vehicles in the second roadway; conversion means for determining from the detected movement when the distance between the successive vehicles permits merging; and a road-marking arrangement for producing a guidance light visible to at least the first vehicle and seemingly moving with the two successive vehicles, the light indicating when said merging is permitted. The flow of traffic moves along with the moving guidance light (&#x2032;, . . . ). The speed of the guidance light (&#x2032;, . . . ) is adapted to the desired mutual distance between the vehicles (&#x2032;) and/or to the desired velocity of the vehicles (&#x2032;). Preferably, guidance lights (&#x2032;, . . . ) are disposed between each of the vehicles. The dynamic road marking system enables higher traffic intensities on roadways and improved traffic safety. In addition, the road marking system including guidance lights (&#x2032;, . . . ) facilitates interweaving of vehicles.
