A journal foil bearing system includes a retainer arrangement with an internal groove extending in a depth direction from the bore of the housing. The internal groove has a first portion and a second portion. The first portion extends further in the depth direction than the second portion and includes a seat surface of the internal groove. The retainer arrangement additionally includes a first top foil end and a second top foil end of the top foil member. The first top foil end is configured to abut the second top foil end to arch-bind the at least one top foil within the bearing system. The first top foil end is received in the first portion of the internal groove and is configured to seat against the seat surface to limit rotation of the first top foil end about the axis. The second top foil end is received in the second portion of the internal groove.

A journal foil bearing system includes a journal member with a bore and an internal groove. The system includes a shaft received within the bore and supported for rotation relative to the journal member about an axis. The groove extends substantially along the axis. The system also includes at least one biasing foil and a top foil member with at least one arch-bound top foil. The top foil member has a top foil first end and a top foil second end. Additionally, the system includes a foil support insert member that is received within the groove. The foil support insert member includes a spacer member that is disposed between the top foil first and second ends. The spacer member maintains the top foil first and second ends separated, at least, at a distance.

A turbomachine includes a housing and a rotating group that is supported for rotation about an axis within the housing. The rotating group includes a rotor shaft, a wheel, and a fastener that clamps the wheel to the rotor shaft. The fastener is unitary and includes a head and a shank. The shank includes a piloting feature on an arcuate surface that faces radially outward with respect to the axis. The shank is received in the wheel and is attached to the rotor shaft with the piloting feature being piloted to an arcuate inner radial surface of the wheel. The head abuts an axial surface of the wheel for axially clamping the wheel to the rotor shaft.

A turbocharger assembly can include a shaft sleeve that includes a bore that extends between a first end and a second end; a shaft received by the bore of the shaft sleeve where the shaft includes a compressor end and a turbine wheel that defines a turbine end; and a balance collar disposed on the shaft and seated axially between the end of the shaft sleeve and the turbine wheel wherein the balance collar includes a stem portion and a flared portion that includes a sacrificial portion.

A turbocharger assembly can include a shaft sleeve that includes a bore that extends between a compressor end and a turbine end, outer threads that extend to a first axial position from the compressor end, and an outer shoulder at a second, greater axial position from the compressor end; a lock nut that includes inner threads that mate with the outer threads of the shaft sleeve and an axial length that is less than a distance between the compressor end and the first axial position; and a bearing assembly that includes at least one inner race axially located by the outer shoulder of the shaft sleeve and axially located by the lock nut.

A compressor assembly can include a shaft sleeve that includes a bore that extends between a first end and a second end and an outer shoulder; a shaft received by the bore of the shaft sleeve where the shaft includes a compressor end; a compressor wheel disposed on the shaft; and a thrust collar disposed on the shaft and seated between the outer shoulder of the shaft sleeve and the compressor wheel where the thrust collar includes a stem portion and a cap portion that includes a sacrificial portion.

A system can include a housing that includes a bore having a longitudinal axis; a cartridge disposed in the bore where the cartridge includes a recess; a bearing assembly disposed in the cartridge where the bearing assembly includes an outer race and rolling elements; and a locating plate attached to the housing where the locating plate includes an extension that is received by the recess of the cartridge.
