A method for the diagnosis of thermal runaway in an electric battery having at least one stack of electrochemical cells connected to one another in series. The diagnosis method provides for the steps of: measuring a first electric voltage at the ends of each electrochemical cell; measuring a second electric voltage at the ends of the entire stack of electrochemical cells; calculating a difference between the second electric voltage and the sum of all first electric voltages; and diagnosing a thermal runaway of an electrochemical cell, if the first electric voltage of the electrochemical cell is smaller than a first threshold value and if, simultaneously, the difference between the second electric voltage and the sum of all first electric voltages is smaller than a second threshold value.

The ageing of an electrical connection installed in a vehicle is evaluated by performing a series of samplings, spaced apart from one another at predefined time intervals, so as to determine a working temperature of the electrical connection for each sampling interval, and by determining a maximum duration of the electrical connection, assuming that the electrical connection was subjected, for its entire life, to the corresponding previously determined working temperature; then, an accumulated damage of the electrical connection is calculated, by overlapping a plurality of partial damage contributions, each of which is determined for each sampling interval, by dividing this sampling time interval by the corresponding maximum duration; finally, the accumulated damage is evaluated so as to identify any criticalities.

Method to assess the ageing of an electrical connection installed in a vehicle

A method to execute a weld of an electrode of a cell which is part of a battery and having the steps of: causing the electrode to come into contact with another element to which the electrode must be welded; locally heating the electrode and the other element so as to locally cause a melting of the metal making up the electrode and of the metal making up the other element in order to generate a weld pool; waiting for the weld pool to cool down, thus giving stability to the weld; capturing, by means of a video camera, a series of digital images of the weld pool during the heating; analysing the digital images in order to determine a value of at least one parameter of the welding process; and changing the execution of the melting process based on the value of the parameter.

A process for controlling an electric motor includes providing a functional relationship, which associates a first and a second quantity, indicative of a torque delivered by the electric motor and of the supply voltage respectively, with a speed parameter of the electric motor, determining a pair of values of the first and of the second quantity, determining a value of a third quantity indicative of an output speed of the electric motor, determining a value of the speed parameter corresponding to the pair of values determined through the functional relationship, determining a value of a fourth quantity indicative of a difference between the value of the speed parameter and the value of the third quantity, determining a target value for the first quantity as a function of the value of the fourth quantity, and controlling the electric motor according to the determined target value.

A power storage system for a vehicle provided with at least one electric motor. The power storage system has: a container provided with a lower wall; and a plurality of modules, which are housed inside the container and directly rest on the lower wall. Each module has a group of electrochemical cells and two containing walls which are perpendicular to the lower wall of the container and are arranged parallel to one another on opposite sides of the pack of electrochemical cells so as to clamp the pack of electrochemical cells between them. Each containing wall has at least one tubular connection body and a plurality of locking elements are provided, which are fixed to the lower wall, project perpendicularly from the lower wall, and engage the connection bodies.
