Absorbent pads for personal sanitary items are made by a device that comprises a set of pick-up heads () moving along a feed path (P), a first application unit () and a second application unit () by which a respective first portion () and second portion () of an absorbent pad are placed on the pick-up head (), and a motion-inducing mechanism, coupled to the pick-up head (), which is designed to bring about a relative displacement between the first portion () and the second portion (), so that when the second portion () is placed over the first portion (), the one will be covered by the other only in part. Device and a method for making absorbent pads used in personal sanitary items

A machine for making absorbent items comprises a conveyor () for feeding a continuous strip () of absorbent items in a predetermined direction L, a cutting element () for cutting the strip into single absorbent items (), a unit for feeding and applying to each stretch of the strip which will constitute a single absorbent item () a pair of fastening and closure elements () for the items; the unit () comprising a roller () for conveying a succession of pieces (), intended to form the fastening elements (), a separating device () consisting of a pair of rollers () which are at a tangent to the conveyor roller () and equipped with suction seats (), able to slide parallel with their axes, for forming respective successions () of pieces (), which are spaced out in a direction T transversal to the direction L, by a stretch having a predetermined length, a roller () for forming pairs of pieces (), which is at a tangent to both of the rollers () and equipped with a first and a second ring of seats, each seat () of the first ring being axially aligned with a seat () of the second ring so as to form a succession of pairs of pieces () which are aligned according to the direction T; an accelerator roller () which is at a tangent to the roller () and to the feed conveyor () varies the pitch P of the pairs of pieces () according to the pitch Pof the stretches of strip () intended to form the single absorbent items ().

Machine for making absorbent items

Absorbent sanitary articles (), such as nappies or incontinence pads with an elongated central body () and at least one pair of closure tabs (), are manufactured on a machine () by which the tabs () are directed in pairs from a feed unit () onto a transport line () carrying the articles () toward a sealing station. The feed unit () operates by making skew cross-cuts () in a continuous strip () of material, so as to generate a succession of tab elements () appearing trapezoidal in outline; the tab elements () are then distanced one from another in alternation along a direction (D) transverse to their feed direction (D) through the machine, so as to obtain two single columns () which are taken up by a roller () and aligned one with another so that the single tab elements () are ordered into a succession of transversely aligned pairs. The alignment roller () rotates tangentially to the transport line () and is timed to place one pair of tab elements () on each advancing article ().
