A method for detecting and measuring a clamping force and/or a braking torque includes encapsulating a fiber-optic strain sensor in a casing and incorporating the casing in a portion of friction material adhering to a base platform of a brake pad, detecting, by the fiber-optic strain sensor, a first strain in a first position of the casing along a first direction and a second strain in a second position of the friction material along a second direction, generating a first photonic signal, representative of the first detected strain, and a second photonic signal, representative of the second detected strain, receiving the first and second photonic signals, by an optical reading/interrogation unit, optically connected to the fiber-optic strain sensor, determining, by the optical reading/interrogation unit, the values of the first and second strains based on the first and second received photonic signals and determining a measurement of the clamping force and/or braking torque based on determined values of the first and second strains.

Method and system for detecting and measuring a braking force of a braking system for vehicle, by means of photonic sensors incorporated in a brake pad

A friction assembly has a support plate, at least one brake pad and at least one reinforcing foil of the plate. The brake pad and the support plate are co-moulded from at least one heat-resistant resin. The reinforcing foil is fixed to the support plate via anchoring projections, joined to and which extend away from the foil, embedded in the resin to prevent or limit deformations of the support plate in the use of the assembly.

Friction assembly, brake caliper and manufacturing method

A pad for a disc brake has a support plate and a friction material. The support plate has at least one first plate and at least one second plate. The first plate is a single-piece and has a flat piston support surface suitable for facing at least one thrust device. The first plate also has a first friction surface opposite the piston support surface and is at least partially suitable for facing the friction material. The at least one second plate is suitable for being interposed between the at least one first plate and the friction material. The at least one second plate is connected to the first plate in a plurality of junction points which are separate from one another. The at least one second plate extends over at least one portion of the friction surface of the at least one first plate delimited by a single closed perimeter.

Friction assembly, brake calliper and manufacturing method

A brake caliper for disc brake has two side walls, one on either side of a brake rotor or disc. Each of the side walls has at least one seat which receives a brake pad having a friction surface which engages the disc, and a thrust surface opposite the friction surface. A brake piston engaging the thrust surface of the pad pushes the pad against the brake disc. The caliper has cooling ducts for conveying a flow of cooling air to the pad. These cooling ducts comprise a first outlet port that is configured to generate a first partial cooling flow on the side of the friction surface of the pad and a second outlet port configured to generate a second partial cooling flow on the side of the thrust surface of the pad.
