An optical-fiber ribbon includes optical fibers (e.g., reduced-diameter optical fibers) arranged in parallel within optical-fiber units, wherein at least one adjacent pair of optical-fiber units is separated by a longitudinal adhesive-free spacing for a portion of the optical-fiber ribbon's length. Typically, each adjacent pair of optical-fiber units is separated by an adhesive-free spacing for a respective portion of the optical-fiber assembly's longitudinal length. In an exemplary embodiment, longitudinal adhesive-free spacings effectively increase the width of an optical-fiber ribbon formed of reduced-diameter optical fibers so that the optical-fiber ribbon achieves a more conventional optical-fiber ribbon width, thereby facilitating mass-fusion splicing using standard splicing equipment.

An optical-fiber ribbon includes intermittent gaps along its longitudinal length in which no bonding material is present across the width of the optical-fiber ribbon. These intermittent gaps without bonding material (e.g., adhesive beads) help to reduce or eliminate bonding-material interference as the optical-fiber ribbon is positioned within an alignment chuck during preparations for mass-fusion splicing.

Process for manufacturing a cable comprising the following steps:(a) conveying at least one conductor to an extruder apparatus;(b) extruding an insulating coating layer radially external to said at least one conductor; (c) longitudinally folding a metal tape around said extruded insulating coating layer, said metal tape bearing at least one adhesive coating layer in a radially external position; (e) extruding at least one continuous coating layer comprising at least one polyamide or a copolymer thereof around and in contact with said folded metal tape; wherein the step (e) is carried out at a draw down ratio (DDR) not higher than 2.5, preferably of from 1.2 to 2.0.

Process for manufacturing a cable resistant to external chemical agents

A multipolar cable for transmitting energy and/or signals, as well as an extrusion method and apparatus for the production thereof, is described. The multipolar cable has at least three transmissive elements and a sheath in which at least three longitudinal housings being intended to house respectively the at least three transmissive elements according to a predetermined configuration and being formed within respective substantially lobe-shaped longitudinal portions of the sheath. The multipolar cable allows the connection of the transmissive elements to one or more consumption points by means of at least one connector provided with at least three perforating elements.

A process for manufacturing a cable includes the steps of conveying at least one conductor to an extruder apparatus; extruding an insulating coating layer radially external to the at least one conductor; longitudinally folding a metal tape around the extruded insulating coating layer, the metal tape bearing at least one adhesive coating layer in a radially external position; and extruding at least one continuous coating layer of at least one polyamide or a copolymer thereof around and in contact with the folded metal tape. The step of extruding the at least continuous coating layer is carried out at a draw down ratio not higher than 2.5, preferably, 1.2 to 2.0.
