A braided hose reinforcement () comprises left and right turning strips (). Each of said strips comprises a number of steel wires. The steel wires () located at the side regions of the strips have a tensile strength which is substantially lower than the tensile strength of the steel wires of the central region.

Stab-resistant insert for protective textile

A fabric (144) for use as a stab-resistant insert in protective textiles comprises a plurality of steel cords (100). Each of the steel cords (100) comprises a longitudinal axis (102) and two or more steel filaments (104). Each of the steel filaments (104) forme a twisting angle .alpha. with the longitudinal axis (102) of the steel cord (100). The steel cords (100) have two or more of such twisting angles which are substantially different from each other so that any penetrating stab or knife is stopped.

A steel cord (10) comprises eight or more strands (12, 14) twisted together. Each of the strands has a substantially same cord twisting direction and a substantially same cord twisting pitch in the steel cord, and each of the strands consists of two to five individual filaments (16, 18) twisted together. Such a multi-strand steel cord can be manufactured without having to twist the individual strands separately and beforehand.

A steel cord (10) has a diameter D and includes a core strand (12) and up to nine peripheral strands (14) surrounding the core strand. The core strand (12) has a diameter D1 and the peripheral strands (14) have a diameter D2. The ratio core strand diameter to peripheral strand diameter D1/D2 is greater than a predetermined value in order to enable rubber penetration. Each strand has a center of one or more center filaments (16, 22) and two or more layers of filaments (18, 20, 24, 26) surrounding the center. The twist angle of a radially outer layer is smaller than the twist angle of a radially inner layer of the same strand. A first free space (28) ranging from 0.0015.times.D to 0.0075.times.D is provided in at least the core strand between each pair of filaments (18) of the radially most inner layer.

A reinforcing strip, and method of making same specifically adapted for use in reinforcing plies in the belt of rubber tires. The strip comprises a number, preferably 4 to 7, of parallel wires, tightly bound together by a wrapping wire or a binder. This strip form allows to combine the advantages of steel strip, i.e. high lateral and low radial stiffness and thinner plies, with those of conventional steel cord, i.e. high tensile strength and fatigue resistance.

A steel strip (1) comprises two to seven round steel filaments (2) lying in parallel adjacent to one another so as to form a single plane of core filaments and one or more filaments (4) which are wrapped around the core filaments in one single wrapping direction. One or more core filaments, individually, or the plane of the core filaments as a whole have residual elastic torsions to such an extent that the strip remains substantially flat over the whole length of the strip if the strip is not subjected to external forces.

Steel strip and method of making

Strand for application as reinforcement in objects of polymer material comprising at least one core and less than six outside wires arranged round it, the core having an outside diameter larger than the diameter of the circle tangent to each of the outside wires in the hollow space that remains free when their cross-sections have the highest packing density and smaller than the diameter of the outside wires, whereby the outside wires are made of carbon steel wire with a tensile strength of at least 2250-1130 log d N/mm.sup.2, d being the wire diameter in mm.

Strand for reinforcing objects made of polymer material

A reinforcing strip, and method of making same, specifically adapted for use in reinforcing plies in the belt of rubber tires. The strip comprises a number, preferably 4 to 7, of parallel wires, tightly bound together by a wrapping wire or a binder. This strip form allows to combine the advantages of steel strip, i.e. high lateral and low radial stiffness and thinner piles, with those of conventional steel cord, i.e. high tensile strength and fatigure resistance.

Tire belt reinforcing strip and method of making of same

A strand for reinforcing objects made of polymer material comprising at least one core wire and less than six outside wires arranged round it, the core wire having an outside diameter larger than the diameter of the circle tangent to each of the outside wires in the hollow space that remains free when their cross-sections have the highest packing density and smaller than the diameter of the outside wires, whereby the outside wires are made of carbon steel wire with a tensile strength of at least 2250-1130 log d N/mm.sup.2, d being the wire diameter in mm. The core wire has a tensile strength less than 2250-1130 log d N/mm.sup.2.

Strand for application as reinforcement in objects of polymer material

A process and machine for making a cord in a structure of one or more layers of filaments, all twisted with a same twist pitch p around a core in which the filaments are not twisted around each other with that same twist pitch p. The cord is made in one continous process in which the core filaments are bundled in a twister, then the layer filaments are joined in parallel to the core bundle on exit from the twister, and the whole is then twisted in a double-twist bunching machine.

Production of steel cord

A steel cord, for use in the reinforcement of resilient articles such as rubber tires, comprises a central bundle of wires surrounded by a circumferential layer of helicoidally twisted wires. In the central bundle, one can distinguish a core and a surrounding layer, the latter having the same twist pitch as the circumferential layer. In order to reduce wire migration, the wires of the central bundle show a limited number of relative position changes, between 2 and 300 per 30 cm cord length.

Steel cord twisting structure

A process for the manufacture of hose or tubing conditions plastic high pressure hose having at least one reinforcing layer of steel wires, cords or longitudinal segments thereof. The hose is internally pressurized for a predetermined period of time which provides a residual permanent elongation of at least 0.5% and increases the interior volume by at least 2% upon release of the pressure.
