A radial magnetic bearing assembly having an unsymmetrical stator. The assembly comprises fewer or smaller electromagnets, and thus capacity, in the two lower quadrants below the rotor in use, in comparison to the electromagnets, and thus capacity, in the two upper quadrants above the rotor in use. This creates space in the two lower quadrants that can advantageously be used to move for example instrumentation and cooling from other places of the assembly to make the bearing assembly compactor, and also to be able to put instrumentation and cooling where it is best needed, close to the rotor.

A landing bearing assembly for a rotary machine rotatable around a central axis and having a stator, a rotor with a shaft, a magnetic bearing, an auxiliary rolling bearing with two lateral faces, a landing sleeve facing, in normal operation of the rotary machine when the rotor is supported only by the magnetic bearing, the auxiliary rolling bearing at a nominal distance defined as the landing airgap El, the auxiliary rolling bearing coming into contact with the landing sleeve upon landing of the rotor in the event of a high shock. The assembly further provides a compliance ring with a nominal thickness Eo made from a material with a lower mechanical stiffness than the material constituting the other components of the landing bearing assembly to first absorb some energy of the shock by elastic deformation resulting in a reduction of its thickness.

A thrust disc for a magnetic bearing, wherein the thrust disc comprises: a body, which is adapted to be mounted on a shaft and which has a first offset yield strength and a first magnetic permeability, and at least one flange which is fixed to the body in a position where it can interact with a thrust stator in order to form a magnetic bearing and which has a second offset yield strength and a second magnetic permeability; wherein the first offset yield strength is higher than the second offset yield strength; and wherein the first magnetic permeability is smaller than the second magnetic permeability. Additionally, the magnetic bearing can be equipped with such a thrust disc. An apparatus can be equipped with such a magnetic bearing.

A rotary machine, comprising: a stator assembly and a rotor assembly centered on a central axis; a magnetic bearing; and an auxiliary bearing including a first ring held in the stator assembly and a second ring delimiting a gap radially to the central axis relative to the rotor. The second ring is not rotating around the central axis in a primary operation mode and is dragged in rotation around the central axis in a secondary operation mode. The rotary machine includes a monitoring system for detecting a transition from the primary operation mode to the secondary operation mode. The monitoring system comprises a target formed on the second ring and a sensor unit fixed relative to the stator assembly. A bearing and a method for manufacturing a rotary machine are additionally disclosed.

Rotary machine, bearing and method for manufacturing a rotary machine

An electrical connector providing a sealed electrical link between an inside environment subjected to corrosive gases or liquids under pressure and an outside environment of different pressure. The connector includes a connector body, conductor cables, a thermoplastic insulator, and a sealing element. The connector body is secured to a structure and includes insulating feed-throughs for receiving electrical contacts connecting an outside environment to an inside environment. The conductor cables, comprising an outer insulating layer made of a fusible thermoplastic material, are connected to said electrical contacts inside said inside environment. The thermoplastic insulator is secured to said connector body and surrounds the conductor cables. The thermoplastic insulator and cable outer insulating layers are made of a same type of fusible thermoplastic material making it possible, by localized fusion, to form a thermoplastic weld therebetween. The sealing element is mounted between the connector body and the thermoplastic insulator.

Sealed electrical connector for magnetic bearings

A sensor assembly includes an annular target body disposed about a rotatable member outer surface and an annular angular position indicator with at least one angular position index corresponding to an angular position of the member. Radial displacement sensors are spaced circumferentially about the axis and radially outwardly from the target body outer surface. A reference sensor is disposed circumferentially between two of the radial displacement sensors, has an inner end spaced outwardly from the target body surface by a first spacing distance, and is configured to detect the target body. An angular displacement sensor is spaced axially from the reference sensor and has an inner end spaced outwardly from the position indicator surface by a second spacing distance. The angular sensor is located such that the second spacing distance is generally equal to the first spacing distance and such that the position index passes the sensor inner end.

A jacketed electromagnetic machine stator for a pressurized rotary machine operating in a corrosive atmosphere containing HS or wet COand including a plurality of pole pieces separated from a rotor by an airgap, wherein the hermetically sealed enclosure protecting said stator from said corrosive atmosphere includes a jacket constituted by a non-magnetic cylinder having magnetic material inlays situated in register with said pole pieces and that are not in contact with said corrosive atmosphere, said hermetically sealed enclosure being constituted externally solely by parts made of non-magnetic material that are secured to one another by welds that have not been subjected to any heat treatment.

Pressurized rotary machine comprising a canned or sleeved assembly of which the electrical connections are connected to the outside of the machine by an electric supply duct, the electrical connections passing from the canned or sleeved assembly to the outside via the electric supply duct by passing in succession through first, second and third hermetically sealed bushings, none of these hermetically sealed bushings through which the electrical connections pass being exposed to a pressurized gas.

A canned or sleeved rotary machine is equipped with a rotor () in contact with a particle-laden, acidic or corrosive gaseous atmosphere, and with a functional electrical assembly such as a magnetic bearing comprising a rotor armature () secured to the rotor () and placed in the gaseous atmosphere and a stator armature () secured to a stationary support () and positioned facing the rotor armature (), the stator armature () comprising at least one winding () and a ferromagnetic body () which are positioned in a protective metal enclosure comprising a solid part secured to the stationary support () or coincident therewith, a thin can or sleeve () and a hermetic passage () for wiring () supplying the windings (). A potting compound () fills residual internal gaps left in the ferromagnetic body (), the windings () and the wiring (), and a dead volume () in which the pressure is below atmospheric pressure is created inside the protective metal enclosure ().

Canned or sleeved rotary machine and method of manufacturing it

The emergency rolling bearing for a rotary machine having magnetic bearings includes at least first and second bearing members with radial clearance of value &#x3b5;/2 that is of the order of half the mean radial air gap &#x3b5;of the magnetic bearings being arranged between each of the bearing members and the rotor, and axial clearances &#x3b5;are provided on either side of the set of bearing members between said set and first and second axial abutment elements secured to the rotor. The first bearing member is mounted directly in a first intermediate support element coaxial with a stator element. The second bearing member is mounted in a second intermediate support element likewise coaxial with the stator element. The intermediate support elements present a plane of contact in a radial plane perpendicular to the axis of the bearing and they are united by a resilient pre-stressed element acting in the axial direction and allowing the intermediate support elements and the bearing members to expand or move apart in the axial direction. Damper means acting in the radial direction are interposed between the intermediate support elements and the stator element.

Emergency rolling bearing that is insensitive to axial load

The invention relates to a jacketed axial magnetic bearing for a rotary machine having a rotor in contact with a gaseous atmosphere that is corrosive, acid, or carrying particles, the bearing comprising a rotor armature in the form of a disk secured to the rotor and placed in the gaseous atmosphere, and a stator magnetic circuit secured to a stationary support device and placed facing the rotor armature, the magnetic circuit of the stator comprising at least one coil and a ferromagnetic body placed in a metallic protective enclosure. The protective enclosure comprises firstly an annular support of channel section with a web and inner and outer flanges presenting a thickness of several millimeters and a length that is less than the length of the stator magnetic circuit, and secondly an annular jacket in the form of a channel-section cover machined from a solid piece and thus without welds, the jacket having inner and outer flanges and a closure web presenting a thickness smaller than the thicknesses of the inner and outer flanges, the free ends of the inner and outer flanges of the jacket being welded to the free ends of the inner and outer flanges of the annular support.

A rotary electric machine having at least one piece of electric equipment constituted by an overmolded or jacketed electric motor or by an overmolded or jacketed magnetic suspension system; the electric equipment including firstly a rotor () and secondly a stator () having pole pieces () and coils (); the stator () being provided with at least one jacket () or coating () to protect it against an aggressive environment, on its face situated facing the rotor (); the protective jacket () or coating () on the face of the stator () facing the rotor () presenting set-back portions () set back from the main surfaces () defining the airgap (e), these set-back portions () being distributed around the stator; and the movement of fluid circulating in the airgap around the rotor () being thus enhanced.

Overmoulded or canned electrical machine

The device for magnetically suspending a rotor relative to a structure comprises at least one axial active magnetic bearing with a main electromagnet coil disposed in a stator and having load-bearing surfaces placed facing an armature extending essentially perpendicularly to the axis of the rotor. A device for detecting the axial position of the rotor is associated with circuits for servo-controlling the current carried by the main electromagnet coil. A compensation coil is disposed close to the main electromagnet coil, but in a position that is situated away from the load-bearing surfaces of the stator that co-operate with the rotor armature. The compensation coil is connected in series with the main electromagnet coil, but carries current in the opposite direction to that carried by said main electromagnet coil. The device constitutes an axial abutment of optimized capacity without magnetic leakage.

Device for magnetically suspending a rotor

The jacketed active magnetic bearing is applied to a rotary machine having a rotor in contact with a process gas and placed in a leaktight enclosure. The magnetic stator is protected by a first jacket of magnetic anti-corrosion material that constitutes a portion of the leaktight enclosure and that is secured to the bearing stator, and the detector stator is protected by a second jacket of non-magnetic anti-corrosion material that constitutes a portion of the leaktight enclosure and that is secured to the detector stator. The bearing armature and the detector armature can be made of a laminated magnetic identical to that of the first jacket.

The emergency bearing for a rotary machine having magnetic bearings comprises an emergency landing device including an intermediate element () having a large contact area with a stator element (), the intermediate element () being interposed between a bearing member () and the stator element () fixed to the stator () with radial clearance () relative to said stator element (). A damper element () acting in the radial direction is interposed between the intermediate element () and the stator element (), and a contact element () having very low friction is implemented between the intermediate element () and the stator element () to reduce friction during rotary movements between these two elements.
