There is disclosed a method of adding flavorant to cigarette filters. A cigarette filter is made by forming a filter web using non-woven web comprising thermoplastic meltblown fibers of filaments that are present as fused agglomerates in a number fraction exceeding 33 percent and wherein a majority of fiber crossings of agglomerates are weld points; adding tobacco extracts to the filter web such that the filter web contains between 10% and 110% tobacco extracts by weight of the filter web; adding glycerin or a glycerin-water mixture to the thus treated filter web; and forming the thus treated filter web into a rod.

Method of producing tobacco flavored cigarette filter

There is disclosed a method of producing a non-burning wrapper for use with smoking products. A non-burning wrapper is formed by treating a base paper with a solution consisting essentially of water, calcium chloride and a reactive size for paper; drying the thus treated paper; coating one side of the thus treated base paper with a solution consisting essentially of water, calcium carbonate, potassium silicate and sodium carboxymethycellulose; and drying the thus treated and coated paper to form a non-burning wrapper for use with smoking products.

Method of producing a non-burning outer wrapper for use with smoking

A flavor release material and method for producing the same where the material contains a calculated amount of active surface agent and flavorant adsorbed onto the active surface agent. The flavor release material is capable of controllably releasing flavor and aroma when exposed to a predetermined elevated temperature.

A wrapper for use in smoking articles such as cigarettes, and in particular, to a wrapper for smoking articles having a heat source, a physically separate aerosol generating means, and a mouthend piece. More specifically the invention relates to smoking articles which employ a substantially non-burnable paper used as an innerwrap and/or outerwrap which encircles at least a portion of the fuel element of such smoking articles.

Nonwoven web comprising thermoplastic meltblown fibers or filaments predominantly present as agglomerates or multiple fused fiber areas. Such agglomerates in the web act as columns and impart a desired degree of strength and resistance to compaction. In contrast to prior art webs where such agglomerates have been considered undesirable, the webs of the present invention find particular utility when formed into cylinders as filter plugs for smoking articles. In smoking articles of the invention, the filter plugs have a desired pressure drop while demonstrating an unexpected degree of firmness, all at an economically attractive cost. Preferred embodiments include those where the machine direction strength to cross machine direction grab tensile ratios in the range of from about 1:1 to 4:1 and the fibers or filaments are made from polypropylene. Other embodiments include webs and filter plugs containing additives distributed throughout the web.

Controlled draft and efficiency filter element for smoking articles

The present invention relates to an improved wrapper for a smoking article haviing a combustible fuel element encircled by an insulating layer and a physically separate aerosol generating means as well as to smoking articles employing such wrappers. The wrapper encircles at least a portion of the insulating layer for the fuel element and comprises a permeable sheet material which during burning of the fuel provides a coherent layer to assist in controlling the amount of peripheral air to the fuel element during smoking. Preferred smoking articles which employ the wrapper of the present invention have a short fuel element, a physically separate aerosol generating means including an aerosol forming material, an insulating material around the fuel element, a relatively long mouthend piece, and a combination of sheet materials as the wrapper comprising an innerwrap which after lighting of the fuel element burns away to a high permeability non-coherent ash and an outerwrap which upon lighting fuses to form a coherent ash which assists in controlling the amount of peripheral air to the fuel element during smoking.

The present invention relates to smoking articles having an improved mouthend piece. More specifically, it relates to cigarette-type smoking articles comprising a fuel element, a physically separate aerosol generating means including an aerosol forming material, and means for delivering the aerosol produced by the aerosol generating means to the user in the form of a mouthend piece, the mouthend piece including a nonwoven web segment formed from meltblown thermoplastic fibers or filaments, and a spacer member located between the aerosol generating means and the non woven web segment.

Smoking article with improved mouthend piece

A wrapper particularly useful for smoking articles of the type containing a burn fuel element and ceramic jacket. The wrapper includes an inner layer for surrounding the burn fuel element and jacket and an outer layer with the combination imparting controlled throttling properties. The inner layer may be a conventional cigarette wrapper material of cellulosic construction and having biased burned properties. The outer layer surrounds the inner sheet and preferably comprises cellulose fibers, titanium dioxide, attapulgite clay, high temperature resistant microfibers, and a burn enhancer. The outer wrapper also maintains permeability and pressure drop properties at temperatures in excess of 400.degree. C. while the inner wrapper burns out resulting in generally infinite permeability after burning. The combination in use possesses sufficient mechanical strength to support the assembly of components in specialty smoking articles and as burned properties that produce an ash appearance similar to conventional cigarette ash and has a high degree of ash integrity.
