A displacement assembly includes a rotor and a plurality of reciprocating members in engagement with the rotor. The displacement assembly further includes a ring assembly. The ring assembly defines a cam surface that is in engagement with the reciprocating members. The ring assembly has a first ring and an axially adjacent second ring with at least one of the first and second rings being adapted for selective movement relative to the other between a neutral position and a displaced position. The first ring has a first ring portion defining a bore that has an inner surface. The second ring has a second ring portion defining a bore that has an inner surface. A first circumferential portion of the inner surface of the first ring portion and a second circumferential portion of the inner surface of the second ring portion define the cam surface in the displaced position.

Displacement assembly for a fluid device

A fluid device includes a housing defining a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet. A variable displacement assembly is in fluid communication with the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet. The variable displacement assembly includes a rotor assembly, a flexible ring, and a plurality of ring supports. The rotor assembly includes a rotor having a plurality of reciprocating members. The flexible ring is disposed about the rotor assembly. The flexible ring includes an inner surface, which is adapted for engagement with the plurality of reciprocating members, and an outer surface. The plurality of ring supports is disposed about the flexible ring. Each of the plurality of ring supports includes a support portion and a pivot portion about which the ring support selectively pivots. The support portion is adapted for engagement with the outer surface of the flexible ring.

Fluid device with flexible ring

A radial pump has a housing with a cylinder ring is pivotally mounted therein. The cylinder ring has a circular aperture within which a cam surface is formed. A cylinder block rotates within the cylinder ring aperture and has a plurality of radially extending cylinders each having port which selectively communicates with a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet as the cylinder block rotates. A plurality of pistons is slideably received within the cylinders and engages the cam surface. An actuator operably coupled to produce movement of the cylinder ring, which alters the spatial relationship between the cylinder ring and the cylinder block to vary the amount that the pistons move within the cylinders. The amount of movement of the pistons within the cylinders is directly related to the magnitude of fluid flow delivered by the pump and moving the cylinder ring thereby controls the fluid flow.
