This invention relates to a roller for continuous casting between rollers, with circulation of cooling fluid. In this roller, comprising a cylindrical body surrounded by an envelope, the cooling fluid circulation channels disposed circumferentially between the body and the envelope, are constituted by groups of grooves on the inner surface of the envelope extending over arcs of circumference, and organizing the circulation in distinct angular sectors corresponding to each group. Axial throats are provided between the body and the envelope at the ends of each sector, and into which open out, on the one hand, radial fluid admission and return pipes passing through the body, and, on the other hand, the grooves of a group by one of their ends, the throats being in a number double that of the angular sectors.

A cooling jacket for an ingot mold for the continuous casting of metal comprises a tubular element and a grid of stiffening ribs projecting from the outer surface of the tubular element, in which the grid is provided at the intersection of the stiffening ribs with openings or bores which pass also through the tubular element for the passage of fastening elements in form of tie rods therethrough by which an inner tube for the passage of the metal to be cast can be fastened to the cooling jacket with radial clearance. The upright ingot mold in which the cooling jacket is used and which is especially employed for the casting of steel, includes, besides the cooling jacket and the inner tube, an outer shell surrounding the cooling jacket with considerable clearance. The outer shell is closed by plates at opposite ends to which opposite ends of the inner tube are respectively fastened and these plates are provided with openings aligned with the opposite open ends of the inner tube. The space between the tubular element of the cooling jacket and the outer shell is divided by a transverse wall in a lower chamber with which the open lower end of the tubular element of the cooling jacket communicates and a longer upper chamber with which the open upper end of the tubular element communicates. A cooling water inlet communicates with the lower chamber adjacent the separating wall and a cooling water outlet communicates with the upper compartment at the other side and adjacent to the separating wall. A jacketted mold for the continuous casting of molten metal is surrounded by an enclosed cooling space holding an electromagnetic inductor for moving the molten metal in the open-ended mold. A cooling liquid is supplied to the cooling space through an inlet chamber and is removed therefrom through an outlet chamber after it has passed through a primary circuit along the tubular mold element. The outlet chamber is divided into two liquid flow circuits, one circulating the liquid from the primary circuit across the inductor at a reduced flow velocity, and the second one being arranged in parallel with the first one for directly, removing the liquid from the primary circuit to the discharge conduit immediately after it has circulated along the tubular mold element.

Liquid-cooled electromagnetic continuous casting mold

A continuous-casting mold has two long sides each of which is provided with a cooling box through which water is passed in order to cool the copper-alloy sides of the mold. Provided inside this cooling box is a plurality of inductors each wound around a magnetic element that extends between the box on one side and the wall of the mold on the other side so that these magnetic elements can act both as inductor cores and as support struts between these two facing walls. The magnetic elements may be formed as horizontal plates about which are wound elongated coils, or may be cylindrical pins on which cylindrical coils are wound.

A continuous-casting mold has two relatively long sides and two relatively short sides. Secured to each of the long sides is a box through which coolant is circulated, and in each of these boxes there is provided a plurality of horizontally spaced groups of vertically spaced inductors. Each of these groups is connected to a respective multiphase power supply so that the frequency and/or field strength of the respective magnetic field can be varied from group to group in order to eliminate dead zones within a body of metal being cast within the mold.

Continuous-casting system with electro-magnetic mixing

A tubular mold element is concentrically surrounded by a jacket defining an annular space therewith and a casing defining a chamber with the jacket. A liquid-tight element divides the chamber into a lower inlet chamber for a cooling liquid and an upper outlet chamber for the liquid. The annular space communicates at the respective ends of the jacket with the inlet and outlet chambers so that a cooling liquid film circulates through the space. The liquid-tight element comprises a first annular member affixed to the interior wall of the casing and a second annular member affixed to the exterior wall of the jacket so that the liquid-tight element supports the jacket at its lower end while its upper end is free of support. The upper end of the tubular mold element is supported in a central orifice of the mold cover which delimits the upper outlet chamber and the lower end of the mold element is centered liquid-tightly in a central orifice of the bottom mold wall delimiting the lower inlet chamber, the mold element being resiliently coupled to the bottom wall. An electromegnetic inductor is arranged in the outlet chamber for moving the molten metal in the passage of the mold element and the inductor is supported on the exterior wall of the tubular jacket.

Liquid-cooled mold for continuous casting of molten metal

A jacketted mold for the continuous casting of molten metal is surrounded by a laterally confined space holding an electromagnetic inductor for moving the molten metal in the open-ended mold. Liquid cooling medium is supplied to the mold jacket through an inlet chamber at one end and is evacuated therefrom through an outlet chamber at the other end. The outlet chamber is in communication with the confined space so that the liquid cooling medium cools not only the mold but also the inductor.
