A folding knife is provided with a power storage device that can be charged and recharged by a charge component that wirelessly receives power from a remote source. In some embodiments, the folding knife can have a device that consumes energy such as a light, a camera, a microphone, an audio speaker, etc. The power storage device and the charge component can be positioned in a scale of the handle where the substantially planar shapes of the scale, the power storage device, and the charge component are oriented in a common direction. In some embodiments, the cavities, recesses, and channels in the first scale that house these components and linking wires are strategically positioned to leave a reinforcing area that provides strength and stiffness to the handle. Various features are also described herein that improve safety of the charging system.

A locking mechanism for a folding knife is provided. More specifically, the locking mechanism is a rotational wedge locking mechanism that maintains the folding knife's blade in an extended position and prevents the blade from inadvertently closing when the knife is in use in the extended position. The rotational wedge locking mechanism also impedes the folding knife from inadvertently opening when the blade is in a closed position of storage. The rotational wedge locking mechanism generally comprises a lock pin, a means for moving the lock pin, and a biasing member, which work in conjunction with the tang of the blade and the back spacer to securely retain the folding knife in an open or closed position.

A writing instrument comprising a writing utensil and associated handles interconnected to each other to allow a user to selectively position the writing utensil in either an extended position of use or a closed position of storage, as well as a variety of positions there between. In an open position, the handles may be positioned adjacent one another with the writing utensil extended longitudinally away from the adjacent handles in a position of use. In a closed position, the handles may be positioned adjacent to the longitudinal length of the writing utensil, with the writing utensil at least partially enclosed between the handles in a position of storage. The rotation of the handles about the writing utensil allows a user to manipulate the handles in a variety of ways, similar to that of a 'butterfly knife' or similar device comprising balisong style openings. In one aspect of the invention, the writing instrument may be used to perform moves or tricks as a novelty device to provide entertainment and enjoyment to a user. A method of manufacturing the writing instrument by injection molding is also disclosed.
