Device for sheathing a filiform material with a molten substance

The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing a composite thread formed of a plurality of filaments combined with a thermoplastic organic material, which consists in mechanically entraining a thread in a device mounted in the manner of a cross head at the end of an extruder and injecting the material in the direction of the thread and concentrically thereto at a constant maximum radial pressure of less than 50 bars.

Process for the manufacture of a composite thread and composite products

A cutting device for cutting threads into predetermined lengths. The device has a first rotatable smooth faced drum and a second rotatable blade bearing drum having a plurality of radially extending circumferentially spaced cutting blades on the outer periphery thereof. Centrifugal force responsive means comprising fins connected to a deformable ring are positioned between the blades and on rotation of the drums act to press a thread onto the smooth faced drum. The blades are connected to the blade bearing drum only at their ends.
