An end of life monitor apparatus for a filter that removes an undesirable gas including: (a) an elastic material, which degrades in the presence of the undesirable gas; (b) a support member coupled to the elastic material; and (c) an indicator component movable to a filter end life position, coupled to the elastic material, whereby the elastic material is stretched between the support member and the indicator component, wherein the indicator component is biased to move to the filter end life position but is restrained by the elastic material from moving to the filter end life position, wherein degradation of the elastic material allows the indicator component to move to the filter end life position.

An element in a corona generating device having at least one conductive corona discharge electrode for depositing negative charge on an imaging surface in an electrostatographic imaging apparatus, the element being capable of adsorbing nitrogen oxide species generated when said corona generating device is energized and capable of desorbing nitrogen oxide species when the corona generating device is not energized, the element having an adhesion, promoting surface reclaimed from prior use in a similar capacity by immersion in an alkaline ultrasonic bath where the cavitation action of the bath is sufficient to remove any binder thereon and any metal, metallic compound and other solid particles as solid particles without metallic dissolution in the alkaline bath while at the same time providing a random microetched surface roughness to promote the subsequent coating and adherence of a substantially continuous thin conductive dry film of aluminum hydroxide containing graphite and powdered nickel, the reclaimed element having a substantially thin continuous conductive dry film of aluminum hydroxide containing graphite and powdered nickel.

Corona generating device and method of fabricating

A method and system is disclosed in which an article, having large open areas or a multiplicity of apertures, is dip coated. The method and system is particularly adapted for use in coating a grid of a corona charging device utilized in the xerographic process. A transport system immerses and removes the article from a tank storing coating material. An unwanted coating material is created across the apertures of the article. Thereafter, the transport system moves the article past an ultrasonic wave source. The impact of the ultrasonic energy transmitted to the unwanted coating material across the apertures causes the removal thereof. The removed coating material is returned to the coating material in which the article was immersed.

A corona generating assembly for charging a photoconductive surface includes a corona generator connected to a relatively large first voltage source to produce ions directed to the photoconductive surface. A conductive screen member or scorotron grid is operatively connected to a second voltage source to control the flow of ions generated from said corona generator to and through said conductive screen. The conductive screen and corona generator are arranged such that the conductive screen is between the corona generator and the photoconductive surface to be charged. A switching arrangement is provided for operatively connecting the conductive screen member with a third voltage source when the first and second voltage sources are removed from the corona generator and conductive screen. Through this arrangement an electrical potential is impressed on the conductive screen member to create a positive electrical field which inhibits effluent outgassing to the photoconductive surface, thus preventing the development of a significant copy quality defect.

Electrical method and apparatus to control corona effluents

A corona generating device for depositing a negative charge on an imaging surface carried on a conductive substrate held at a reference potential comprising; at least one elongated conductive corona discharge electrode supported between insulating end blocks, means to connect said electrode to a corona generating potential source, at least one element adjacent said corona discharge electrode capable of adsorbing nitrogen oxide species generated when said corona discharge electrode is energized and capable of desorbing nitrogen oxide species when said electrode is not energized, said at least one element being coated with a substantially continuous, thin, uniform, electrically conductive, nonpermeable, substantially nonreactive and noncorroding film of a metal deposited in the amorphous state from the vapor state.

An apparatus and a method for efficiently spray coating mesh parts with a spray gun comprising; a plurality of racks for holding a plurality of mesh parts; and a stand for arranging the plurality of racks in a plurality of positions such that in at least one of the plurality of positions each side of each mesh part directly faces the spray gun, and in at least one of the plurality of positions each side of each mesh part indirectly faces the spray gun.

A corona generating device for depositing negative charge on the imaging surface carried on a conductive substrate comprises at least one elongated conductive corona discharge electrode, means to connect the electrode to a corona generating potential source, at least one element adjacent the corona discharge electrode capable of adsorbing nitrogen oxide species generated when the electrode is energized and capable of desorbing nitrogen oxide species once that electrode is not energized, the element being coated with a substantially continuous thin conductive dry film of aluminum hydroxide containing graphite and powdered nickel. In a preferred embodiment, the conductive corona discharge electrode comprises a scorotron with at least one linear array of pin coronodes where the corona control grid is coated with the film.

A fluid flow assisted ion projection printing head having an electrically conductive metal body defining an elongated ion generation chamber, a corona wire supported within said chamber for generating ions, an entrance channel in the body for introducing transport fluid to the chamber, an exit channel at least a portion of which is defined by the body for directing transporting fluid with entrained ions from the chamber, and modulation means for neutralizing ions in selected portions of the exiting entraining fluid has substantially all surfaces thereof effected by the extended exposure to the chemistry of the corona discharge coated with a substantially continuous thin conductive film of aluminum hydroxide containing conductive particles. In a preferred embodiment, the conductive metal is aluminum and the conductive particles are graphite particles.

Coated ion projection printing head

A corona charging device for depositing negative charge on an imaging surface comprises at least one elongated conductive metal corona discharge electrode supported between insulating end blocks and being coated with a substantially continuous thin conductive dry film of aluminum hydroxide containing conductive particles. The corona discharge electrode may be a thin metal wire or alternatively at least one linear array of pin electrodes and the conductive particles in the coating are graphite particles.

Long life corona charging device

A multipurpose filtering material particularly for use in electrostatographic reproducing apparatus has a foraminous support matrix having a plurality of interconnecting voids to permit low impedance to the flow of gaseous material but sufficient to trap particulate material entrained in the gaseous material which is coated with a thin dehydrated alkaline film of an alkali metal silicate to neutralize nitrogen oxide species in the gaseous material and has adhesively bound thereto a particulate neutralizer for another noxious gas the surface of which is substantially exposed to the flow of gaseous material. A filter may be placed in electrostatographic reproducing apparatus at the inlet or outlet of an air stream passing therethrough to neutralize nitrogen oxide species and ozone generated by the corona discharge device, and ammonia from the incoming air.

A corona generating device for depositing negative charge on an imaging surface carried on a conductive substrate comprises at least one elongated conductive corona discharge electrode, means to connect the electrode to a corona generating potential source, at least one element adjacent the corona discharge electrode capable of absorbing nitrogen oxide species generated once the corona generating is energized and capable of desorbing nitrogen oxide species once that electrode is not energized, the element being coated with a substantially continuous thin conductive dry film of aluminum hydroxide. In a preferred embodiment, the conductive corona discharge electrode comprises a scorotron with at least one linear array of pin coronodes where the corona control grid is coated with the substantially continuous thin conductive dry film of aluminum hydroxide.

A corona generating device for depositing negative charge on an imaging surface carried on conductive substrate comprises at least one elongated conductive corona discharge electrode, means to connect the electrode to a corona generating potential source, at least one element adjacent the corona discharge electrode capable of adsorbing nitrogen oxide species generated once the corona generating electrode is energized and capable of desorbing nitrogen oxide species once that electrode is not energized, the element being coated with a substantially continuous thin dehydrated alkaline film of an alkali silicate to neutralize the nitrogen oxide species when generated. In a preferred embodiment the corona discharge electrode comprises a thin wire coated at least in a discharge area with a dielectric material and at least one element comprises a conductive shield and an insulating housing having two sides adjacent the shield to define the longitudinal opening to permit ions emitted from the electrode to be directed toward a surface to be charged, both the shield and the two sides of the housing being coated with a substantially continuous thin dehydrated alkaline film of an alkali silicate.
