A process and apparatus for forming, filling, sealing and deflating a package of goods prior to the time the fill opening is sealed includes a blast of air against the exterior flexible sidewalls of the package to thereby drive gas from the inside of the package.

Form-fill-seal deflation method and apparatus

A flexible bag is formed to receive a product therein in fluid tight condition and in such bag it is customary to open the bag at one end when the contents are to be retrieved to the external surface of the bag during manufacture and then it is desired to reseal the bag after it has been opened, the bag is folded a plurality of times in the direction of the seal strip and the external surface of the bag is applied to an exposed adhesive on the seal strip and thereby the bag is resealed for storage of the contents.

Starter cultures for cheese production are prepared using culture media containing on a 100 parts dry basis 0.1 to 30 parts of a nitrogen source, 1-30 parts of a nitrogen source, 1-30 parts of a citrate source and a milk product being the remainder which is selected from the group consisting of undecalcified sweet whey or a major amount of undecalcified sweet whey and a minor amount of nonfat dry milk. The media results in a high and uniform bacteria count, and starter cultures produced therefrom produce cheese that cures fast and has enhanced flavor.
