An adjustable lock striker bolt assembly includes an anchor plate which is manually snap assembled to a retention bracket by an operator without tools and with limited access to the inside of the lock pillar. The retention bracket includes a pair of spaced laterally extending retention flanges, each including a retention slot. The anchor plate includes a thickened central body portion and a pair of legs extending oppositely therefrom. To assemble the anchor plate to the bracket, one leg of the anchor plate is inserted through the slot of one flange until the central body portion contains the one flange. This locates the edge portion of the other leg in engagement with the other flange. Manual pressure of the anchor plate snaps the edge portion of the other leg into the slot of the other flange.

Lock striker anchor plate assembly

The shoulder belt retractor is secured to an upper outboard portion of a seat back frame. Under predetermined vehicle deceleration conditions, the seat back is restrained from forward movement by blocking mechanism mounted on the side door so that the seat back and retractor are held stationary and the occupant using the shoulder belt is effectively restrained.

Vehicle occupant restraint system

A belt securing device includes a housing having a pair of pivotally mounted tong arms, each having a curved arm portion extending outwardly therefrom for capturing encirlement of the belt. A spring acts on the tong arms to bias the curved arm portions to an open spaced-apart belt-releasing position. An actuating member is slidably mounted on the housing and has an actuating bar positioned between the curved arm portions of the tong arms and in the path of entry of the belt therebetween. One of the tong arms has an operating leg which extends into engagement with the actuating member so that movement of the actuating member relative the housing by the occupant or the belt as the belt is entered between the tong arms pivots the tong arm against the spring bias to carry the tong arms to a closed position of belt encirclement. Gear teeth provided on the tong arms are interengaged to effect simultaneous movement of the tong arms. A latch member is pivotally mounted on the housing and has a latch spring acting thereon to urge a latch portion into blocking engagement of abutment surfaces on the tong arms to block return of the tong arms from the closed position to the open position. The latch member has a button portion by which the seat occupant may pivot the latch member against the bias of the latch spring to move the latch portion from blocking engagement of the abutment surfaces and allow the spring to pivot the tong arms to the open position to release the belt.

Seat belt securing device

A longitudinally extending track assembly connects the inboard side of the seat bottom frame to the vehicle body for fore and aft adjusting longitudinal movement and supports the seat bottom frame at at least two longitudinally spaced points to support the seat bottom frame against forward and rearward pitching movement. A longitudinally extending outboard track member is mounted on the vehicle body adjacent the outboard side of the seat bottom frame. A one-point track engaging means carried by the seat bottom frame is slidably interengaged in the track member to support the outboard side of the seat bottom frame for fore and aft sliding movement. The one-point track engaging means is located forwardly of the rearward portion of the seat bottom frame so that the outboard side of the seat bottom frame is cantilevered rearwardly of the outboard track member when the seat is adjusted full rearwardly and is spaced above the vehicle body floor. This one-point support on the outboard side of the seat bottom frame minimizes obstruction of the door opening to facilitate passenger entry to the rear seat and maximizes unobstructed rear seat passenger foot space beneath the outboard side of the seat bottom frame.

Vehicle seat mounting arrangement

A seat belt anchorage device such as a retractor frame or an apertured plate includes a mounting member having an aperture adapted to receive a fastener for attaching the mounting member on a vehicle body structural member. The mounting member has a slot adjacent the aperture at a spaced relation therefrom to define a land surrounding the aperture, to define a load bearing wall spaced from the land, and define an isthmus integral with the land and extending generally normal to the direction of imposition of the seat belt load on the mounting member. The isthmus has a predetermined load sustaining capability and is permanently deformed upon imposition of an occupant restraining seat belt load greater than the load sustaining capability to provide a permanent record of imposition of an occupant restraining load on the anchorage device. Deformation of the isthmus permits limited bodily shifting movement of the mounting member to carry the load bearing wall into engagement with the land thereby blocking further movement of the mounting member and anchoring the seat belt for restraint of the occupant.
