A frame for a game racquet such as a tennis racquet is formed by interspersed winding of filament material over an elongated mandrel to form a tube. The tube is formed from a wound laminate in which some or all of the circuits of the wind patterns are sequenced in an arbitrary manner by the designer. Each circuit is helically wound along a rotating mandrel. The formed tube is placed in a mold having the shape of the frame, auxiliary pieces for handle and yoke sections are added, and together molded to form the frame.

Filament wound frame for a game racquet

To couple a driving shaft of a machine to a driven shaft, a coupling assembly is mounted to the driving and driven shafts and includes a flexible coupling element. The flexible coupling element includes a plurality of first fasteners adapted to be connected to the driving shaft and a plurality of second fasteners adapted to be connected to the driven shaft. A plurality of fibers connects different ones of the first fasteners to different ones of the second fasteners so that the first fasteners applies force to the second fasteners to transmit torque. The filaments or fibers are looped around the fasteners and the coupling element has a thickness in the range of 1 percent to 10 percent of its diameter.

Rotary coupling apparatus using composite materials

An expandable shaft of the slotted type made of a fiber and resin composite material. The shaft is fabricated by first forming the central cylindrical core and then forming the rails by pultrusion. The rails are then bonded to the outer surface of the core.
