A method of objectively quantifying assessments of joints having arthritis for purposes of assessment, diagnosis and treatment. The objective measurements utilize known imaging modalities including 3D scanning, thermal imaging, visible and near-infrared imaging and two-dimensional imaging to quantify swelling, heat distribution, erythema, and range or motion. The objective measurements can be combined in various ways to assess the extent of the disease and can be used to adjust treatment protocols.

Method of assessing localized shape and temperature of the human body

A method of assessing a body part includes obtaining two or more types of data through a combination of two or more of the following four imaging modalities: (1) obtaining surface topography data of the body part, (2) obtaining thermographic data of the body part, (3) obtaining range of motion data for the body part, and (4) obtaining spectral data of light reflected from the body part. The two or more types of data are integrated to allow them to be interacted with simultaneously, and the body part is assessed based on the integrated data.

Method of assessing a body part

An electronically agile spectro-polarimetric imager is described in which an acousto-optic tunable spectral filter (AOTF) is located in series with an electronically tunable optical phase modulation plate such that incident radiation will pass through the modulation plate and the AOTF in sequence. This system makes it possible to perform both spectral analysis, complex polarization analysis and object discrimination at video-rates of incident radiation from complex target scenes according to the spectral content and polarization state of the radiation reflected or emitted from the objects within the scene, regardless of the polarization state of the incident radiation. Embodiments for analyzing incident radiation of various wavelengths are provided.

Spectro-polarimetric imager

An infrared gas analyzer for measuring low concentrations of a target gas, on the order of parts per million, in a sample gas is comprised of a gas sampling chamber, an infrared light source, and a power source for energizing the light source. A plurality of filters is provided to transmit infrared radiation at certain wavelengths. The wavelengths are chosen such that the effects of unwanted gases (such as water and carbon dioxide) can be removed from the final output signal. A plurality of infrared detectors are responsive to the filters for producing a plurality of electrical signals. A circuit is provided for combining the plurality of electrical signals to produce an output signal representative of the concentration of the target gas independently of other gases in the sample gas. A method of measuring low concentrations of a target gas is also disclosed.

Non-dispersive infrared gas analyzer with interfering gas correction

A method is disclosed for optimizing the performance of self sustained diarge rear gas halide lasers by using a gas mixture containing two halogen bearing gases. One of these gases is chosen for its attaching properties to optimize the operation of the discharge. The other gas is chosen for its weak attachment and its ability to form the excimer molecule in collisions with rare gas metastables. A representative strongly attaching halogen donor, XHn, is selected from F.sub.2 and NF.sub.3, and a representative nonattaching halogen donor, YHn, which may be weakly attaching, is selected from CH.sub.3 F, CH.sub.2 F.sub.2, and CHF.sub.3. The XHn gas has a concentration value from approximately 0.1 percent up to about 10 percent which is adjusted to maximize the production rate for excited and positively ionized rare gas atoms to yield the excimer state molecules RgHn*, wherein Rg is a rare gas. The identity and amount of XHn are chosen to (i) ensure operation of the discharge at a field to pressure ratio E/N and current density which maximizes Rg* and Rg.sup.+ production by appropriate control of the attachment loss rate of electrons, and (ii) to have the predominant attachment reaction be one which produces Hn.sup.- ions, rather than some other negative ion(s) so that RgHn* is produced by the recombination reaction Rg.sup.+ +Hn.sup.- +M.fwdarw.RgHn*+M, wherein M is a rare gas diluent to stabilize the recombination reaction.
