An environmental control system of a vehicle includes a compressor having a compressor inlet configured to receive a first medium and a compressor outlet. A compressed first medium is provided at the compressor outlet. A conduit is configured to receive a second medium and a heat exchanger is mounted to the compressor. The heat exchanger is fluidly connected to a portion of the compressor and to the conduit.

Cabin air compressor with integral heat exchanger

An environmental control system for conditioning a cabin of a vehicle positioned in an enclosed air-evacuated environment includes a first inlet for receiving a first medium and at least one inlet for receiving a second medium. The second medium includes a first flow of the second medium and a second flow of the second medium. A thermodynamic device is fluidly coupled to the first inlet and includes a compressor and at least one turbine operably coupled by a shaft. The first medium is provided to the compressor and the at least one turbine in series. A first mixing point is fluidly coupled to the second inlet and an outlet of the at least one turbine. An environmental control system of an aircraft including a plurality of inlets for receiving a plurality of mediums including a first medium, a second medium, and a third medium and an outlet for delivering a conditioned flow of the second medium to one or more loads of the aircraft. The environmental control system additionally includes a first compressing device and a second compressing device. The second compressing device is arranged in fluid communication with the first compressing device and the outlet. An inlet of the second compressing device is directly connected to an outlet of the first compressing device, and the first compressing device is driven by energy extracted from the first medium. The first medium is a flow of bleed air.

An environmental control system includes an inlet configured to receive a medium and a compressing device fluidly connected to the inlet. The compressing device includes a compressor operably coupled to a turbine. An outlet of the compressor is fluidly connected to an inlet of the turbine such that the medium is provided to the compressor and the turbine in series. An environmental control system includes an inlet configured to receive a medium and a compressing device fluidly connected to the inlet. An environmental control system includes a plurality of inlets for receiving a plurality of mediums including a first medium and a second medium and an outlet for delivering a conditioned form of the second medium to at least one load of the aircraft. A ram air circuit includes a ram air shell having at least one heat exchanger positioned therein and a dehumidification system is arranged in fluid communication with the ram air circuit. A compression device is arranged in fluid communication with the ram air circuit and the dehumidification system. The compression device includes a compressor and a plurality of turbines including a first turbine and a second turbine operably coupled by a shaft. An outlet of the first turbine is directly coupled to an inlet of the second turbine, such that the first medium is provided to the first turbine and the second turbine in series.

A dual entry turbine of a compression device includes a housing having a first inlet and a second inlet, and a first outlet and a second outlet. A turbine impeller is arranged within the housing. The turbine impeller has a first gas path and a second gas path. A first flow path extends from the first inlet to the first outlet via the first gas path and a second flow path extends from the second inlet to the second outlet via the second gas path. The first flow path and the second flow path being fluidly separate from one another.

Ambient air environmental control system

A compressing device includes a first turbine a second turbine and a compressor. The first turbine is configured to provide a first energy by expanding a first medium and the second turbine configured to provide a second energy by expanding a second medium. The compressor is configured to receive the first energy and the second energy during a first mode of the compressing device, receive the first energy during a second mode of the compressing device, and compress the second medium in accordance with the first mode or the second mode.

Energy flow of an advanced environmental control system

A compressing device for use in an environmental control system includes at least one turbine configured to provide energy by expanding one or more mediums. The one or more mediums provided at an outlet of the at least one turbine form a heat sink within the environmental control system. A compressor is configured to receive energy from the one or more mediums expanded across the at least one turbine. During a first mode of the compressing device, energy derived from a first medium and a second medium of the one or more mediums is used to compress a second medium at the compressor. During a second mode of the compressing device, energy derived from the first medium, the second medium, and a third medium of the one or more mediums is used to compress the second medium at the compressor.

An environmental control system of a vehicle includes a first compression device including a compressor, a first turbine, and a power turbine operably coupled by a shaft. The first turbine is configured to receive a first medium, the compressor is configured to receive a second medium, and the power turbine is configured to receive a third medium. A second compression device, separate from the first compression device, includes a second turbine. The environmental control system is operable in a first mode and a second mode. In the first mode, the second medium is provided to the compressor and the second turbine sequentially. In the second mode, the second medium bypasses the second turbine. In in both the first mode and the second mode, only the second medium is provided to an outlet of the environmental control system.

100% ambient air environmental control system with bleed turbine in series

An environmental control system includes an environmental control system pack having a trim outlet and a primary outlet. A trim medium is output from the trim outlet and a first medium is output from the primary outlet. An inlet of a mixing manifold is connected to the primary outlet of the at least one environmental control system pack. A trim heat exchanger is connected to the trim outlet and the at least one inlet of the environmental control system pack. Within the trim heat exchanger, the trim medium is arranged in a heat exchange relationship with a second medium. From the trim heat exchanger, the second medium is provided to an inlet of the least one environmental control system pack and the trim medium is mixed with a flow output from an outlet of the mixing manifold.

A heat exchanger is arranged in fluid communication with the at least one compressing device. The second medium output from the at least one compressing device is cooled by the third medium. The second medium is fresh air.
