An apparatus and process for continuously discriminating between a contaminated plastic material containing trapped volatile contaminants and plastic material which contains an acceptable threshold of contaminants including first supplying a continuous source of plastic material wherein the plastic material contains trapped volatile contaminants and feeding a sample of the plastic material to the input section of an auger conveyor. The auger conveyor contains a barrel and a transfer screw positioned within the barrel with flights thereon for conveying the plastic material, the auger also connected to an output section which itself is connected to a detector for detecting trapped volatile contaminants. Plastic material is then conveyed through the auger at a selected rate by rotation of the transfer screw and the auger is also heated to a selected temperature such that trapped volatile contaminants in the plastic material are removed therefrom and remain substantially within the flights and delivered to the detector. The apparatus and process herein is also configured in active communication with a tracking database containing one or a plurality of programmable logic controllers (PLC's) which signal, divert and/or isolate contaminated recycled material from plastic material which contains an acceptable threshold of contaminants when the recycled material exceeds preselected contamination levels.

Quality control system for monitoring and control of contaminants in recycled plastics

The present invention relates to an apparatus and method and uses a thin, yet strong plastic film as the intermediate layer for the waterproofing material and the film has a plurality of perforations therein. The film is highly resistant to crack propagation, and acts as a barrier to crack propagation between adjacent asphalt layers, thus providing superior protection from the elements. The asphalt layers are interconnected with each other through the perforations in the polyester support layer. Because of the strength of the polyester film, only a very thin layer of polyester is necessary and this results in a substantial cost savings. As an alternative to coating, it is possible to extrude or laminate the asphalt onto the PET film. Also a layer of asphalt may be applied only to one side of said film and extruded through the perforations with heads on the columns so formed to attach the asphalt to the film.

This relates to a method of forming a thermal/collapse-resistant highly oriented polyester container for use in hot fill applications. In accordance with the method of a polyester preform is reheated and then placed in a blow mold cavity whereat the preform is distended to match the blow mold cavity to form an intermediate article including a container having an oriented end unit receiving finish of a diameter materially greater than the diameter of the preform. The method is characterized in that in providing the preform the composition of the polyester, the draw ratio during distending of the preform and reheat conditions are all controlled to provide a container with a sidewall and finish density in the range of 1.350 to substantially but less than 1.370 grams/cubic centimeter.

Method for producing a hot fillable, collapse resistant polyester

This relates to the forming of a blow molded polyester container wherein a bottle having a conventional upper neck portion and an intermediate body is provided with a lower portion which includes an annular seaming flange which is integrally connected to the lower end of the body and wherein, with the exception of the seaming flange, the lower portion is removed and the bottle is closed by a separately formed bottom double seamed to the lower end of the body utilizing the annular seaming flange. During the interim between the removal of the bottle lower portion and the application of a separate bottom, the bottle is fully open so as to be readily commercially interiorly coated with a barrier coating. The separately formed bottom may be readily formed of metal and may be so constructed as to provide a large diameter base for supporting the bottle in upstanding position.
