An image processing system and method are described which use entropy values in processing the image. For each of a plurality of segments of an image, the segment is considered as a stream of bits and a bit difference is computed between pairs of sequential bit sequences in the stream of bits. An entropy value of the segment is computed as a function of the bit differences. The image is processing based on the computed entropy values, which may include compressing some or all of the image segments using an acceleration factor that is based on the computed entropy value for the segment. In this way, differences in entropy, which correlate with the compressibility of the image segment, can ensure an optimal compression of the segment, or in some cases, no compression.

Dynamic compression acceleration using real-time image data entropy analysis

What is disclosed is a system and method for increasing throughput in the image processing path of a digital document reproduction device. A digital image to be processed is received. Memory is allocated into two buffers, Band B. Each buffer has size where M is a size of the allocation. The digital image is divided into N number of tiles. Then, for tiles T, where i=1 to N: (A) the image data of tile Tis decompressed into buffer B, and (B) the image data of buffer Bis decompressed into the image path pipeline. Send a signal indicating that processing of the digital image has completed.

Increasing data throughput in the image processing path of a document reproduction device

Systems and methods are described that facilitate mitigating processor overload and reducing memory waste during image compression. Clients requesting memory allocation are assigned a direct memory access (DMA) channel to which DMA memory blocks are allocated for use during image compression. As each DMA block is used by its channel, the DMA block generates an interrupt message that is counted by a DMA counter and may be optionally processed by the CPU. If the number of interrupts being processed exceeds a first threshold, then memory block size is increased to reduce processor load. If the number of interrupts is below a second, lower threshold, then block size is decreased to reduce and amount of unused but allocated memory in the final block allocated to the channel a compressed image file. Fixed DMA block size may also be used and any DMA block may be programmed to generate an interrupt indicating a memory usage threshold has been crossed and that additional DMA memory blocks should be allocated to continue compression beyond the number of DMA blocks initially allocated.

High-performance digital image memory allocation and control system

A compression and storage device comprises: a compressor configured to compress data; a central processing unit (CPU) configured to control storage of the compressed data and to perform at least one additional task; an electronic memory organized as storage blocks each having a storage block size; a direct memory access (DMA) engine configured to operate autonomously from the CPU to transfer a current transfer block of compressed data into one or more storage blocks of the electronic memory; and a transfer block size estimator configured to select a transfer block size for the current transfer block based on previous DMA transfers of compressed data, the selected transfer block size being generally different from the storage block size.

Predictive DMA data transfer

The presently disclosed embodiments are directed to systems and methods for transmitting a secure electronic fax or scan transmission report for a fax or scan job from a fax capable printer or a multifunctional device respectively. When the electronic confirmation (EConfirmation) option is selected, the machine sends an email comprising a status of the fax or scan job to the sender and a hyperlink. The sender then selects or 'clicks' on the hyperlink, which connects to the machine Web (UI) Services. Web services automatically retrieves the job information and correctly displays all previously entered selections. The sender then simply verifies the information, makes any necessary changes and selects or 'clicks' a button on the Web services to retransmit the fax or scan documents. In another embodiment, the sender is given an option to reformat a scan job by compressing or changing job parameters of the scan job. A method is also provided to automatically reformat the scan job and retransmit the reformatted scan job over the network if the transmission fails due to insufficient storage requirements and/or file size limitations at the destination.

Systems and methods for secure fax and scan transmission status notification

A hardware interface usable to communicate with electrically erasable read-only memory devices and, optionally, other external controls or devices, includes self-monitoring power supply circuitry, an EEPROM driver and noise and signal degradation prevention circuitry, and optional input/output circuitry which provides for programmatically cycling power to the memory device. The self-monitoring power supply circuitry is capable of determining whether a power supply has reached the hardware interface. The EEPROM driver and noise and signal degradation prevention circuitry reduces signal noise and/or signal degradation and driver circuitry for programming, monitoring, and downloading information to and from the EEPROM devices. The digital input/output circuitry is capable of controlling the power supply to the hardware interface, downloading or monitoring information to the hardware interface, or controlling/responding to external devices or controls.
