A centrifugal separator for separating contaminants from contaminated oil is disclosed. The centrifugal separator has a shroud which defines a first chamber and has a hollow rotor mounted for rotation therewith in the first chamber and defining a second chamber. Oil under pressure is admitted to the second chamber through a rotatable, hollow spindle on which the rotor is fixed. The oil flows into the first chamber through tangential reaction nozzles in the rotor to cause contaminants to migrate toward the sidewall of the second chamber under the influence of centrifugal force. The spindle is axially movable in the shroud, and is biased toward the upper end of the shroud by a spring. An indicator pin extends through the top of the shroud and is biased against the top of the spindle so that it follows movements of the spindle. As the contaminants build up on the sidewalls of the rotor, the spindle, and therefore the indicator pin, move downwardly so that an inspection of the indicator pin will inform the observer as to the build up of contaminants within the rotor without disassembling the separator.

Centrifugal filter with external service indicator

A tilt responsive shut-off valve in a fuel line of a motor vehicle to shut-off fuel flow from a supply tank to a carburetor when the vehicle is upset in any direction. The valve includes an inlet passage, shut-off passage and outlet passage connected between the valve inlet and valve outlet. The shut-off passage includes dual ball members cooperating with a valve seat and each other to shut off fuel flow when the vehicle is upset beyond a predetermined amount. Under normal operating conditions, a sealing ball, biased toward a closed position, is held away from its associated valve seat face by a counterbiasing ball thereby permitting fuel flow through the valve.

Tilt responsive valve

A tilt-responsive valve particularly suited for use in a fuel supply system in a motor vehicle for preventing leakage of fuel in the event of upset of the vehicle. The valve includes a closure member biased to a closed position and a pendulum control member for preventing sealing of the closure member when the valve is in a normal range of inclination from the vertical and permitting the closure member to check flow through the valve when the valve is tilted beyond a critical angle.

Tilt-responsive valve

A fluid receiving body and bracket assembly in which fluid pressure loads and external loads on the assembly are sustained by a bracket member embracing the body whereby shear forces on the body port areas are eliminated to thereby permit the body to be formed of a nonmetallic material having limited elongation and shear strength properties. A second bracket member telescopes over the first bracket member to lock the body therebetween in an assembled condition while the first bracket member includes means for fastening the assembly to a supporting object.
