An electronic device may be provided with wireless circuitry. The wireless circuitry may include one or more antennas and first and second radio-frequency modules. The device may include a conductive housing having dielectric antenna windows. The first module may generate first millimeter wave signals in a first communications band. The antenna may transmit the first signals to external equipment through the dielectric window at a transmit power level. The antenna may receive control signals in the second communications band from the external equipment through the dielectric window. The first and second communications bands may include frequencies greater than 10 GHz. The second module may pass the received control signals to the first module to adjust the transmit power level of the first signals transmitted by the antenna. A duplexer may be interposed between the modules and the antenna for isolating the first and second communications bands.

Electronic devices having millimeter wave wireless data transfer capabilities

A wireless communication device (UE) includes a cellular processor configured to conduct wireless communications according to a first radio access technology (RAT) in a first frequency band and in a second frequency band, wherein the first RAT is a cellular RAT, the first frequency band is in an unlicensed spectrum, and the second frequency band is in a licensed spectrum. In some embodiments, the apparatus includes a wireless local area network (WLAN) processor configured to conduct wireless communications according to a second RAT in the first frequency band. In some embodiments, the cellular processor and the WLAN processor are configured to couple to a common antenna for communications in the first frequency band. In some embodiments, the cellular processor may notify the WLAN processor when it is scanning and/or when it is assigned secondary component carriers in the first frequency band. In some embodiments, the WLAN processor may notify the cellular processor when it is transmitting. In some embodiments, the WLAN processor and/or the cellular processor may perform one or more actions in response to such notifications to improve coexistence in the first frequency band.

LAA/WiFi Coexistence for 5GHz antenna sharing

An electronic device has wireless communications circuitry that includes transmitters and receivers. Antenna structures may be coupled to the transmitters and receivers to support radio-frequency signal transmission and radio-frequency signal reception operations. Switching circuitry such may be used to support multiple communications bands of interest. One or more low band receivers may be associated with the first switch and one or more high band receivers may be associated with the second switch. The switches can be configured in real time to switch a desired communications band into use. A diplexer may be used to simultaneously pass low bands to the first receiver and high bands to the second receiver. In this way, a data stream in the low band may be simultaneously received with a data stream in the high band.

Wireless circuitry for simultaneously receiving radio-frequency transmissions in different frequency bands

Handheld electronic devices are provided that contain wireless communications circuitry. The wireless communications circuitry may include an antenna. A radio-frequency coupler may be coupled to the antenna. Transceiver circuitry may be used to transmit and receive radio-frequency signals through the coupler and the antenna. A reflected power detection circuit may be connected to the coupler. When the transceiver circuitry transmits radio-frequency signals, some of the signals are reflected back from the antenna into the coupler. The coupler directs the reflected antenna signals into the reflected power detection circuit. Processing circuitry may analyze a reflected power signal from the reflected power detection circuit to determine whether operation of the antenna is being disrupted by the placement of a user's hand over the antenna or other proximity effects. If antenna operation is being disrupted, the user may be alerted or other suitable actions may be taken.

Handheld electronic devices with antenna power monitoring

An electronic device has wireless communications circuitry that includes transmitters and receivers. Antenna structures may be coupled to the transmitters and receivers to support radio-frequency signal transmission and radio-frequency signal reception operations. Switching circuitry such as first and second radio-frequency switches may be used to support multiple communications bands of interest. A low band set of transmitters may be associated with the first switch and a high band set of transmitters may be associated with the second switch. The switches can be configured in real time to switch a desired communications band into use. As transmitted signals at frequency f pass through the switches, harmonics at 2f, 3f, and other integral multiples of the transmitted signals may be produced. A diplexer may be interposed between the switching circuitry and the antenna structures that prevents the harmonics from reaching the antenna structures.

Wireless circuitry with reduced harmonic interference

Handheld electronic devices are provided that contain wireless communications circuitry. The wireless communications circuitry has simultaneous reception functions that allow the handheld devices to simultaneously receive multiple communications signals in a single communications band. The handheld electronic devices may include cellular telephones with music player functionality or other portable devices. The handheld electronic devices may have local wireless communications capabilities for supporting local wireless links such as WiFi and Bluetooth links. Using the simultaneous reception functions of the wireless communications circuitry, users of the handheld electronic devices can simultaneously receive signals such as WiFi and Bluetooth signals.

Wireless communications circuitry with simultaneous receive capabilities for handheld electronic devices

An electronic device has wireless communications circuitry including a triplexer. The wireless communications circuitry may be used in first and second modes. In the first mode, the device communicates in a first communications band using a transmitter in a first uplink frequency range associated with the first communications band and using a receiver in a first downlink frequency range associated with the first communications band. In the second mode, the device communicates in a second communications band using a transmitter to transmit in a second uplink frequency range associated with the second communications band and using the receiver to receive in a second downlink frequency range associated with the second communications band. Signals in the two downlink frequency ranges may pass through a common bandpass filter in the triplexer. Two additional bandpass filters in the triplexer may be used to respectively handle the two uplink frequency ranges.

Wireless circuits with minimized port counts

An electronic device has wireless communications circuitry that includes transmitters and receivers. The transmitters and receivers may share an antenna. Transmitted signals from multiple transmitters may be merged using a combining circuit. Merged signals from the transmitter may be conveyed to the antenna through a circulator. The circulator may route incoming signals from the antenna to receivers. The receivers may be coupled to the circulator through a filter. An additional filter may be interposed between the circulator and the antenna. An additional transmitter may transmit signals through the antenna using the additional filter. An additional receiver may receive some of the incoming signals that are received by the antenna through the additional filter.

Wireless circuitry with simultaneous voice and data capabilities and reduced intermodulation distortion

Electronic devices are provided that contain wireless communications circuitry. The wireless communications circuitry may have antenna diversity circuitry that allows an optimum antenna in an antenna structure to be switched into use during device operations. The antenna structure may be shared between multiple radio-frequency transceivers in a radio-frequency transceiver circuit. The radio-frequency transceiver circuit may be coupled to the antenna structure using switching and filtering circuitry. The filtering circuitry may include a diplexer that divides radio-frequency signals into a divided signal path based on frequency. The filtering circuitry may also include bandpass filters that are interposed in each branch of the divided signal path. Switching circuitry in the switching and filtering circuitry may be used to selectively configure the wireless communications circuitry in transmit and receive modes using multiple communications bands.

Electronic device with shared multiband antenna and antenna diversity circuitry

Electronic devices are provided that contain wireless communications circuitry. The wireless communications circuitry may have antenna diversity circuitry that allows an optimum antenna or optimum antennas in an antenna structure to be switched into use during device operations. The antenna structure may be shared between multiple radio-frequency transceivers in a radio-frequency transceiver circuit. The radio-frequency transceiver circuit may be coupled to the antenna structure using switching and filtering circuitry. The filtering circuitry may include one or more diplexers that divide radio-frequency signals into divided signal paths based on frequency. The filtering circuitry may also include low pass, high pass, and bandpass filters that are interposed in the divided signal paths. Switching circuitry in the switching and filtering circuitry may be used to selectively configure the wireless communications circuitry in transmit and receive modes using multiple communications bands.

Shared multiband antennas and antenna diversity circuitry for electronic devices

Handheld electronic devices are provided that contain wireless communications circuitry. The wireless communications circuitry may have first and second transceiver circuits that operate in the same radio-frequency band using different communications protocols. The wireless communications circuitry may have a configurable radio-frequency combiner and divider circuit that is coupled between an antenna and the first and second transceiver circuits. The combiner and divider circuit can be configured to support simultaneous use of the antenna by the first and second transceiver circuits. When simultaneous use is not required, the combiner and divider circuit can be used by either the first transceiver circuit or the second transceiver circuit.
