Disclosed is a device for activating a security system in a vehicle including a first and second vehicle sensor (). The sensor include, respectively, a measuring value sensor () which can detect acceleration and structure-borne noise, and a central unit () which evaluates the signals of at least two vehicle sensors () and activates the security system according to the signals. The first and second vehicle sensors have a first direction of sensitivity for at least one measuring value sensor (), which is used to detect acceleration, and a second direction of sensitivity for at least one measuring value sensor () which is used to detect structure-borne noise.

Device for activating a security system in a vehicle

A signal preprocessing device is disclosed, which is integrated into a structure-borne sound sensor or into an acceleration sensor for sensing structure-borne sound, or which is connected at the input end to at least one sensor of this type and is connected at the output end to at least one signal channel that is connected to at least one central electronic control unit, and wherein the signal preprocessing device has at least one filter module having at least two bandpass filters. A method for preprocessing structure-borne sound sensor signals is also disclosed, in which a filtering operation is carried out in which at least two frequency bands, which are at least to a certain extent part of the structure-borne sound spectrum, are transmitted. Use of the above device in electronic motor vehicle security systems, in particular safety systems, in particular in vehicle occupant protection systems and/or passenger protection systems is also disclosed.

Disclosed is a vehicle sensor () for detecting impact sound, including a measured-value sensor () for detecting an impact sound. The measured-value sensor () includes several individual, separate measured-value sensing elements (), each of which is coupled to a vehicle structure () in such a way that impact sound waves are transmitted by the vehicle structure () to the measured-value sensing elements ().

Occupant protection systems in a motor vehicle are activated in the event of a crash that puts the occupants of the vehicle at risk. A processor-based trigger system evaluates signals of crash sensors and actuates the occupant protection systems. Signatures that are produced by impacts on the vehicle body by means of a crash sensor system are detected and preprocessed directly on site of the crash sensor mounting areas. The crash sensor system includes a plurality of similar multifunctional peripheral crash sensors located in various areas of the vehicle body. The preprocessed signatures or variables derived therefrom are evaluated by means of a crash algorithm associated with the trigger system, in terms of kind, intensity, direction and time of the crash signatures and/or occupant risk signatures. Crash-relevant occupant protection systems are triggered at respective times determined in terms of the achievable protective effect of the occupant protection system when occupant risk threshold values are exceeded.

Method for the evaluating of an installation location of an acceleration sensor assembly in a vehicle with respect to the transmission characteristics to this installation location of acceleration impulses acting on the vehicle, with a following serially-connected evaluating circuit, especially for the triggering of occupant protection devices, in that a prescribed acceleration impulse is impressed at at least one prescribed position on the vehicle, the impulse response is measured at the installation location, the frequency spectrum of the impulse response is determined, and the installation location is evaluated through comparison of this frequency spectrum with a prescribed nominal spectrum.

Method for the evaluation of the mounting location of an acceleration sensor component in a vehicle

A method for the transmission of sensor data from a sensor assembly to one or more receivers is presented, in which, in response to a control signal, additional data are transmitted at least temporarily for a short time instead of the sensor data, whereby only a certain limited value range of the value range that is available for the sensor data transmission is used for the transmission of the additional data, so that even with receivers which do not recognize that the transmitted data are additional data, erroneous functions or malfunctions are to be excluded. Thus, especially that value range of the sensor data signal that is to be attributed to a noise of the quantity to be measured or of the sensor assembly and is therefore not evaluated by the receiver in the normal signal operation, is used for the transmission of the additional data. In occupant protection systems, the safety-uncritical value range of a sensor data signal, which leads to no triggering of the occupant protection system, can correspondingly be used for the transmission of the additional data.
