A sensor element for detecting at least one property of a measuring gas in a measuring gas chamber, in particular for detecting a proportion of a gas component in the measuring gas or a temperature of the measuring gas, includes a ceramic layer construction that includes at least one electrochemical cell, the electrochemical cell having at least one first electrode, a second electrode, and at least one solid electrolyte connecting the first electrode and the second electrode. The second electrode is situated in the layer construction facing an electrode cavity that is in the layer construction. The second electrode has at least one outer diameter that is greater than a corresponding outer diameter of the electrode cavity.

Sensor element for detecting at least one property of a measuring gas in a measuring gas chamber

A packaging technology for MECS components, which allows the realization of extremely robust components which are resistant to high temperatures and media. Such a component includes at least one micro-electrochemical sensor (MECS) component having a diaphragm, which is developed in a layer construction on the substrate of the component and spans an opening in the substrate rear side, and a carrier for the mounting and electrical contacting of the MECS component on an application circuit board. The MECS component is bonded to the carrier in flip chip technology, so that a hermetically tight mechanical connection between the top surface of the MECS component and the carrier surface exists at least in one connection region, and an electric connection between the MECS component and the carrier exists in at least one contact area.

Moreover, a sensor element which is manufacturable according to this method is provided.

A method for operating at least one sensor element for detecting at least one property of a gas in a measured-gas space is described. The method comprises at least the following steps: at least one first step, in the first step at least one parameter being ascertained; at least one second step, in the second step the parameter being compared with at least one comparison value, in accordance with that comparison at least one feature being allocated to the sensor element or to at least one part of the sensor element. An apparatus for carrying out the method is also described.

In a method for adjusting a gas sensor having a hollow chamber connected to a measuring gas chamber and having an electrochemical pump cell electrochemically pumping the gas component into or out of the hollow chamber, at least two pumping-in phases are provided in which the gas component is pumped into the hollow chamber by the electrochemical pump cell, and at least two pumping-out phases are provided in which the gas component is pumped out of the hollow chamber by the electrochemical pump cell. On the basis of at least one feature of the pump current during the pumping-out phases (M), at least one piece of information for adjusting the gas sensor is generated. A parameter regarding the pumping-in is predefined differently in the at least two pumping-in phases.

A method for diagnosing a sensor element for detecting at least one fraction of a gas component of a gas in a measuring gas chamber, in particular a sensor element for detecting oxygen in an exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine. A method for operating a sensor element, in particular a lambda sensor, for determining the concentration of a gas component of a gas mixture, in which the gas component is removed from a measuring gas chamber by applying a pump voltage and the concentration of the gas component in the gas mixture is inferred therefrom. Oscillations of the pump current caused by dynamic pressure variations are taken into consideration for a correction of the sensor signal in that a frequency analysis of the pump current is carried out.

Said gas sensor comprises a pump cell with an outer electrode that is exposed to the exhaust gas, an inner electrode located in a measuring chamber which is separated from the exhaust gas by means of a first diffusion barrier, and an electronic circuit for generating a voltage applied between the outer electrode and the inner electrode as well as for measuring and evaluating a pump current that is generated in said process in order to draw a conclusion therefrom about the composition of the fuel-air mixture. The inventive gas sensor is characterized in that the outer electrode is arranged in an independent measuring volume which is separated by means of an additional, second diffusion barrier whose coefficient of diffusion is different from that of the first diffusion barrier while the circuit is configured so as to preferably repeatedly reverse the polarity of the voltage.
