Moulding compositions based on thermoplastic polyesters can be effectively protected against thermal degradation, if they contain, as a first stabilizer, a polyepoxide compound and, as a second stabilizer, a bisoxazoline or a dicarboxylic acid imide or amide.

The invention relates to plastics moulding compounds which have been flame-proofed with organic chlorine- or bromine-containing compounds, said moulding compounds containing at least one aerosol selected from the group comprising the highly dispersed silicates, highly dispersed alumina, and highly dispersed titanium dioxide, and, optionally, a dibasic or tribasic oxyacid of phosphorus or an ester thereof. These moulding compounds have a reduced corrosive action on contact metals.

The invention relates to glass-reinforced polyester moulding compounds which contain a polyester that is at least 90 mol. % a polyester of 1,4-butanediol and trans-1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid or polyester forming derivatives thereof. The content of glass fibres is preferably 2 to 60% by weight, based on the moulding compound. The moulding compounds of the invention have improved tracking resistance.

Flame-resistant plastics moulding material formed from a polymer, preferably a thermoplast, and a halogenated benzimidazolone or halogenated benzimidazolone derivative, such as N,N'-di-(2-hydroxyethyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrabromobenzimidazolone or 4,5,6,7-tetrabromobenzimidazolone calcium, as a flame-resistant agent. The flame-resistant agent is added to the polymer at any suitable stage of production by a simple mixing together of the constituents, whereby this flame-resistant agent must not react chemically with the polymer.

The invention provides a method for the production of a pigment preparation for coloring linear polyesters in the melt, which comprises forming a concentrate from 20 to 80 parts of pigment and 80 to 20 parts of a polyester which melts between 60.degree. and 160.degree. C., by kneading in the presence of a salt and a solvent or by a flush process, mixing said concentrate with a fibre forming linear polyester, melting the mixture and processing it to granules. Linear thermoplastic polyesters obtained from aromatic dicarboxylic acids and unsubstituted aromatic diols are modified with relatively long chain aliphatic dicarboxylic acids. By this means, the processing temperatures are lowered, while the mechanical properties remain essentially unchanged.

Linear thermoplastic polyesters obtained from (a) dicarboxylic acids which contain NH groups, (b) if desired, terephthalic acid and/or isophthalic acid, (c) if desired, diols containing aliphatic diol groups and (d) .beta.-hydroxyalkylated bisphenols are materials from which it is possible to produce shaped articles which have good properties, for example good resistance to stress cracking and stability to thermooxidative degradation, and also a low absorption of water.

Thermoplastic copolyesters which have a minimum relative viscosity of 1.7 and contain (a) 35-47.5 mol % of units of terephthalic acid, (b) 15-2.5 mol % of units of isophthalic acid, (c) 10-30 mol % of units of ethylene glycol and (d) 40-20 mol % of units of diethylene glycol, it being possible for up to 9 mol % of the units of ethylene glycol to be replaced by units of a bisphenol dihydroxyalkyl ether, are very suitable as hot-melt adhesives.

Linear thermoplastic polyesters containing, in the main, triazinedicarboxylic acids as the acid constituent are modified with relatively long-chain aliphatic dicarboxylic acids. By this means, the processability is improved and the notched impact strength is increased, without other mechanical properties being substantially changed.
