A static mixer distributes substances introduced into a flow duct as homogeneously as possible in a flow medium. The intention is to achieve complete intermixing over the shortest possible path distance. The static mixer includes a multiplicity of deflection elements which are small in relation to the diameter of the flow duct. The deflection elements are disposed in mutually parallel rows aligned transversely to the axis of symmetry of the flow duct. The deflection elements of each row are inclined equidirectionally in a direction parallel to the row and in counterdirection to the deflection elements of the respectively directly adjacent rows. The static mixer can be used for gaseous and liquid media.

A device for introducing a liquid or gaseous reactant into a gas flow includes at least one outlet opening for the emergence of a reactant flow in a direction counter to a gas flow direction. At least one baffle is disposed upstream of the at least one outlet opening, as seen in the gas flow direction, for splitting the reactant flow emerging from the at least one outlet opening into at least two partial flows. At least one mixing element is preferably downstream of the at least one outlet opening, as seen in the gas flow direction, for turbulent mixing of the reactant and/or the gas flow.

A catalytic converter for accelerating at least one reaction between at least two reactants of a gas mixture includes a catalyst carrier, and a catalytically active substance. The catalytically active substance has a varable chemical composition which is varied along a flow direction of a gas mixture, for suppressing undesired side reactions.

A regenerative preheater includes a heat accumulator and a catalyst through which a raw gas containing a harmful component can flow and through which a clean gas can flow in alternation. A first admission point for a gaseous reagent is disposed upstream of the catalyst in a flow path of the raw gas. A second admission point for the gaseous reagent is disposed upstream of the catalyst in a flow path of the clean gas. A method for operating a regenerative preheater includes passing a raw gas containing a harmful component and passing a clean gas through a heat accumulator and a catalyst in alternation. A a reagent for a catalytic reaction is introduced into both a flow path of the raw gas and a flow path of the clean gas.

Catalytic material for reducing nitrous oxides in flue gases in the presence of ammonia in which titanium oxide is used as the starting material and the latter is milled together with vanadium oxide and one or more oxides of the elements tungsten, molybdenum, phosphorus, chromium, copper, iron, uranium and is thereafter subjected to at least one thermal treatment. Tungsten and molybdenum are substituted here entirely or partially by phosphorus in the form of its oxides or phosphates.
