Novel compositions comprising minoxidil, a thickening agent, and a pharmaceutically acceptable solvent are presented. Also presented is a process for making a novel gel composition comprising minoxidil, and methods for using the novel compositions for treating and preventing hair loss in a region of a patient.

Compositions of minoxidil

The present invention provides a pharmaceutical composition comprising at least one pharmaceutically acceptable bismuth-containing compound, at least one pharmaceutically acceptable non-clay-derived suspending agent, and water. The suspension exhibits reduced upward pH drift by comparison with an otherwise similar suspension which comprises a clay-derived suspending agent. Such compositions are useful in the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases and/or disorders.

Stable pharmaceutical composition useful for treating gastrointestinal disorders

A highly storage-stable composition for vaginal administration of clindamycin is disclosed which is useful for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis. The composition is a vaginal suppository containing an antimicrobially effective amount of clindamycin dispersed in a Hard Fat NF suppository base. Hard Fat NF suppository bases provide a clindamycin product having long term storage stability while providing efficacy against bacterial vaginosis which is equivalent to clindamycin vaginal creams.

Minoxidil gel

A conditioning shampoo formulation comprising a base surfactant level of at least 16%, which includes cocamidopropyl betaine and cocamide diethanolamine. The formulation is essentially free of additional preservatives and is suitable for use as a conditioner for hair prior to treatment with a hair restoring medication or agent.
