An implantable artificial bladder soft system is provided which comprises an at least partially deformation resistant support base, a compliant deformable diaphragm, an inlet means, an outlet means, an optional outer shell, an optional backflow control means, an optional discharge control means, and an optional anchoring means. This implantable artificial bladder can be completely emptied. A method for the collection of, the storage of and the discharge of biological fluids incorporating the implantable artificial bladder soft system is provided as well.

Implantable artificial bladder and method for the collection of, the storage of, or the discharge of biological fluids using the natural peristaltic pressure of a patient's ureter or ureters or of an artifical ureter to fill a first chamber of the artificial bladder and a constant force stored energy means in a second chamber isolated by a rolling diaphragm from the first, said means biasing the rolling diaphragm against the first chamber and serving to empty the implantable artificial bladder.

Electrically conducting magnetic recording tape having a coating of .gamma.-Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 particles on a polyester substrate is used as leads for probes in oven cavities and other microwave fields. The tape leads are flexible, have a high resistance per unit length, and are nearly transparent to electromagnetic waves. Electric diode-dipole probes with such leads are uniquely electric and a magnetic loop detector is uniquely magnetic.

A method and apparatus for optically evaluating surface roughness by the use of specular reflections particularly adpated to curved surfaces such as shafts or tubes. This is accomplished by directing a beam of parallel, monochromatic, plane polarized light onto the test surface at two different angles and detecting the relative intensity of the specular reflections at the respective angles of reflection by a pair of suitably located detectors. A signal is then generated corresponding to the ratio of the intensities of the specular reflections which are shown to correspond to the surface roughness independently of surface color. In the preferred embodiment, the differing angles of incidence are created by directing a laser beam at a portion of a suitably positioned round shaft, portions of the beam intercepting different portions of the shaft at different angles of incidence, with the detectors located along corresponding axes of reflection. The detector signals are divided by electronic circuitry to provide a signal which corresponds to the surface roughness independently of surface color.
