A connector for connecting a wire to an electrode includes a rigid body which presses downwardly against the wire and presses it into contact with the laminated sheet member of the electrode. The body includes first and second pairs of spaced apart prongs and third and fourth prongs, all of which pierce the laminated sheet member and are bent upwardly into contact with the central portion of the connector.

Electrode having wire connected thereto and method for assembling same

An electrode and connector are detachably connected to one another for use in defibrillating or pacing a patient's heart. The connector includes two jaw members which clamp over a tab portion of the electrode. The jaw members include electrical contacts which engage and contact the conductive sheet within the electrode. This provides electrical continuity from the electrode through the connector to a lead wire.

Electrode and connector assembly and method for using same

The defibrillator pad system of the present invention includes a pair of pads which can be adhered to electrodes of defibrillator paddles. Wires are connected to these pads and lead to two separate electrode pads which are adapted to be attached to the patient's chest. The defibrillator paddles can thus be used to defibrillate the patient while the defibrillator paddles are remote from the patient. A pair of plug members are provided between the two pairs of pads so that they can be disconnected from one another.

Defibrillator pad system and method for using same

The defibrillator pad of the present invention comprises a lower layer of electrically conductive tacky polymer and an upper layer of filamentous carbon fabric containing carbon fibers coated with an electrically conductive polymer. The pad is placed on the patient's chest with the polymer layer facing downwardly in contact with the patient's chest and with the carbon layer facing upwardly for engagement with the electrodes of the defibrillator paddles.

Defibrillator pad assembly and method for using same

The defibrillator pad of the present invention comprises a lower layer of electrically conductive, tacky polymer and an upper layer of tin foil. The tin foil has apertures therein which expose portions of the upper surface of the polymer, thereby providing a nonskid surface for the electrode of the defibrillator paddles.

The defibrillator pad of the present invention comprises a lower layer of electrically conductive tacky polymer and an upper layer of filamentous carbon fabric. The pad is placed on the patient's chest with the polymer layer facing downwardly in contact with the patient's chest and with the carbon layer facing upwardly for engagement with the electrodes of the defibrillator paddles.

The pad assembly of the present invention is adapted to be used with a defibrillator paddle. The assembly includes a bottom sheet and a top sheet, with a flexible second sheet sandwiched therebetweeen. The second sheet is comprised of an electrically conductive polymer having the characteristic of being inherently adhesive on both of its upper and lower surfaces. The upper and lower surfaces are detachably adhered to the top and bottom sheet members. A tab is operatively attached to the second sheet member so as to permit manual grasping of the second sheet member without engaging the adhesive upper and lower surfaces of the second sheet member. The device is used by removing the bottom sheet member from the second sheet member, and by placing the second sheet member in covering relation over the electrodes of a defibrillator paddle. When the defibrillator is used on a patient, and top sheet member is removed and the tacky second sheet member is placed in contact with the patient's chest.

The present invention comprises a flexible planar sheet having perimetric edges, the sheet being formed from a plurality of multi-fiber carbon filaments. The sheet is coated with a first solution of biodegradable polymer dissolved in a solvent, and the solvent is permitted to evaporate thereby leaving a first film of biodegradable polymer on the flexible sheet member. A second solution is applied to the sheet and contains a biodegradable polymer dissolved in a solvent, the concentration by weight of the polymer with respect to the solvent being greater in the second solution than in the first solution. When the solvent of the second solution evaporates it leaves a second film of biodegradable polymer on the planar sheet adjacent to the perimetric edges thereof. An alternative method of applying the polymer to the sheet is to lay polymer strips on the sheet and to apply heat to those polymer strips.
