A method of planning deployment of a radio communication network in at least a portion of a geographic area is provided. The method comprises: providing a three-dimensional model of the at least a portion of the geographic area; providing a model of at least one radio base station, the model comprising at least an indication of a position of the radio base station within the geographic area; and evaluating a propagation channel within the at least a portion of the geographic area associated with electromagnetic radiation, radiated by the at least one radio base station, at predetermined positions in the three-dimensional model of the geographic area. The method further comprises planning the deployment of the radio communication network based on the evaluation of the propagation channel.

Method and system for radio communication network planning

A method for estimating the electric field strength associated to a radio wave emitted by an electromagnetic source of a cellular radio communication network within an area. The method includes: identifying a set of obstacles; determining at least one of: a direct visibility polygon of points in line of sight with the source; a reflection visibility polygon of points reachable by the wave after reflection by the obstacles; a diffraction visibility polygon of points reachable by the wave after diffraction by the obstacles. The visibility polygons are associated to respective values of the electric field computed therein. The method further includes: subdividing the area into pixels; for each pixel, determining if it belongs to at least one of the visibility polygons; and in the affirmative, determining the electric field strength at the pixel as a value proportional to the electric field computed at the at least one visibility polygon.

Method for estimating the electric field strength in a cellular communication network

A method predicting coverage area of a radiocommunications network including plural network cells distributed over a geographic area. The method includes calculating by simulation an irradiated electromagnetic field irradiated by a radio base station of the network in plural measure locations within the geographic area corresponding to respective expected positions of a user terminal. The calculating includes, for each measure location, calculating a basic transmission curve indicative of a basic attenuation of a radioelectric signal strength in the measure location, and associating to the basic transmission curve at least one correction factor for refining the radioelectric signal strength basic attenuation by taking account of shielding effects on the radioelectric signal strength due to obstacles to the propagation of the radioelectric signal.

An antenna site equipped with reconfigurable antennas in a communication network and having capacity to serve communication traffic in a respective area of competence is configured by partitioning the area the area of competence into a set of cells. The number of cells in the set is optimized by ensuring that the traffic is evenly distributed among the cells. This result is preferably achieved starting from a reference set of cells by locating: &#x2014;i) areas of superposition between adjacent cells covered jointly by traffic capacity of adjacent cells in the reference set of cells, and&#x2014;ii) uncovered areas between adjacent cells, that is, areas not covered by traffic capacity of any cells in the reference set of cells. The areas of superposition are removed and the traffic capacity thus made available is assigned to the uncovered areas. If any uncovered areas remain, the number of cells in the reference set of cells is increased and the process repeated. If no uncovered areas between adjacent cells are located, the possibility exists of decreasing the number of cells in the reference set of cells and the process is repeated to check whether the area of competence can be properly covered with a lower number of cells.

A method for planning a radiocommunications network includes computing cell coverage in turn including dividing a region around a radio base station into a number of large environment pixels, dividing each large environment pixel into a number of small environment pixels, and, for each target small environment pixel, computing a second quantity indicative of the coverage within the target small environment pixel, wherein each second quantity is computed for the respective target small environment pixel as a function of a mixed environment profile describing the environment between the radio base station and the target small environment pixel along a propagation path of a radioelectric signal radiating out from the radio base station and passing through the target small environment pixel, wherein the mixed environment profile describes the environment within small environment pixels close to the radio base station and the target small environment pixel, and within large environment pixels along the remaining stretch of the radioelectric signal propagation path.

A method for planning a telecommunication network for radio apparatuses includes a plurality of cells distributed over a geographical area, each of which has a set of elementary areas of territory called pixels adapted to receive a radio signal irradiated by a fixed radio base station in which for each cell is determined a service area of the location of the pixels of the cell in which the network is able to provide predetermined services to the mobile apparatuses located therein. The pixels belonging to the service area pertaining to a predetermined cell are identified according to a criterion for selection in succession based on the values of a sorting function, which is a function of the quantity of traffic pertaining to the pixels being examined, and the resulting service area is computed as a set of the pixels of the cell progressively selected in a manner that the sum of the contributions of the individual pixel does not exceed a predetermined limit value of the load factor of the cell. A computing system and a computing program or group of programs executable by the system and adapted to implement the method.
