A method and machine for wrapping an article, whereby the article is fed through a feed station, where the article is applied with a respective sheet of wrapping material which is folded into an L about the article, so as to have a free edge not contacting the article, and through a follow-up wrapping station, where the sheet of wrapping material is folded about the article to form a tubular wrapping by applying the free edge onto the article; between the feed station and the wrapping station, the free edge of the L-folded sheet of wrapping material is subjected to traction in substantially the opposite direction to the travelling direction of the article by subjecting the first free edge to suction, so as to smooth the sheet of wrapping material onto the article.

A unit for supplying packets of cigarettes has a first and a second belt conveyor, which respectively define a first and a second path having a common portion; and a routing device extending about the first and second belt conveyor at the common portion, and cooperating with the belts of the first and second belt conveyor.

Packet supply unit and method

A method and unit for closing the ends of tubular wrappings on a cigarette packing machine, wherein the tubular wrappings enclosing respective groups of cigarettes are fed continuously and successively along an annular path and through two folding stations, in the first of which a movable folding member and a fixed folding member, common to all the tubular wrappings, fold the short sides of a projecting tubular portion of the tubular wrapping to define two projecting major tabs, and in the second of which a single rocker arm, common to all the tubular wrappings, is swung to successively fold the two major tabs while the wall of the tubular wrapping coplanar with each major tab is maintained, during folding, contacting a respective flat supporting wall.

Method and unit for closing the ends of tubular wrappings on a cigarette packing machine

A unit for transferring groups of cigarettes has a conveyor having pockets for housing the groups and for feeding the groups in a first direction; a guide for guiding each group into a respective pocket along a path in a second direction crosswise to the first direction; and a safety device having a guide member adjacent to the conveyor and movable between a work position defining part of the path, and an emergency position remote from the path; the unit also having a spring for setting the guide member to the emergency position when a group of cigarettes transmits to the guide member a force over and above a given threshold value.

Unit for transferring articles

Cigarettes are formed into groups by a device comprising a hopper through which to direct a flow of cigarettes, a conveyor with pockets moving intermittently past a discharge outlet of the hopper, and a reciprocating pusher located on the side of the hopper opposite from the conveyor by which a portion of the flow corresponding to one group is directed with each forward stroke into a respective pocket. To avoid damage of the kind often associated with sliding contact and axial compression, the cigarettes adjacent to those ejected by the pusher are restrained when their cylindrical surfaces are attracted by suction generated through ports located inside the hopper.

Device for forming groups of cigarettes

A pocket conveyor wherein a flexible toothed belt is fitted with conveying pockets equally spaced along the belt, and wherein each pocket is connected to the belt by a first and at least one second connecting member, both hinged to the belt; the first connecting member is connected rigidly to the pocket; and the second connecting member has at least one degree of freedom with respect to the pocket.

Method and device for dynamic control of an object along a path

A product wrapping method and machine whereby a continuous tubular wrapping, formed gradually about an orderly succession of equally spaced products with a first given spacing, is fed through an operating station and divided into segments, each enclosing a respective product; and the segments and respective products, rotated 90.degree. about an axis crosswise to a transfer plane, are transferred with a second given spacing along a substantially straight path to an output conveyor by a transfer device, which grips each product and the respective segment before the product leaves the operating station.
