In one aspect, the present invention relates to a thermocouple device comprising a flexible non-planar substrate, a first printed thermocouple element comprising a first metal containing ink composition applied to the flexible non-planar substrate, and a second printed thermocouple element in electrical contact with the first printed thermocouple element making a thermocouple junction. The second printed thermocouple element comprises a second metal containing ink composition with a Seebeck coefficient sufficiently different from the first metal containing ink composition for the first and second printed thermocouple elements to together produce a thermocouple effect. The present application further relates to medical devices comprising the thermocouple and methods of making such devices.

Thermocouple device

In one aspect, the present invention relates to a pressure sensing/force generating device comprising a non-planar substrate, a printed pressure sensitive element comprising (a) a piezoelectric material containing ink composition capable of producing a piezoelectric effect/piezoresistive effect and/or (b) a dielectric material containing ink composition capable of producing a capacitive effect. It also includes a first printed electrode comprising a conductive ink composition, and a second printed electrode comprising a conductive ink composition. The first and second electrodes are in electrical contact with the printed pressure sensitive element. The first and second printed electrodes and the printed pressure sensitive element collectively form a pressure sensitive junction, which is coupled to the non-planar substrate. The present invention further relates to medical devices comprising the pressure sensing/force generating device and methods of making such devices.

Pressure sensing or force generating device

An inkjet recording element is disclosed having a support and, on the support, (a) a porous base layer comprising particles of fumed silica and a hydrophilic binder and (b) an optional porous gloss layer above the base layer comprising particles of colloidal silica and a hydrophilic binder, wherein the particles of finned and colloidal silica are anionic. Also disclosed is a method of printing on such an inkjet recording element and a preferred method of making the inkjet recording element. The inkjet recording element can potentially have, in some embodiments, the advantages of improved image quality (reduced coalescence), and higher dye ink optical densities.

Inkjet recording element

An inkjet recording element is disclosed having a support and, on the support, (a) a porous base layer comprising particles of fumed silica and a hydrophilic binder and (b) a porous gloss layer above the base layer comprising particles of colloidal silica and a hydrophilic binder, wherein the particles of fumed and colloidal silica are anionic. Also disclosed is a method of printing on such an inkjet recording element. An ink jet recording element with a support having thereon an image-receiving layer of inorganic particles and stabilizer particles, the stabilizer particles being free of any organic solvent and containing greater than about 80% by weight of a water-insoluble antioxidant and having a mean particle size of greater than 5 nm, the inorganic particles being greater than about 50% by weight of the ink receiving layer.

Ink jet recording element

An inkjet recording element comprising an absorbent support, a porous base layer nearest the support and comprising precipitated calcium carbonate, a porous ink-receiving intermediate layer above the base layer and comprising hydrated alumina, and a porous ink-receiving upper layer above the intermediate layer and comprising a mixture of hydrated and fumed alumina. Also disclosed is an advantageous method of making such inkjet recording materials.

Glossy inkjet recording element on absorbent paper

An inkjet recording element comprising an absorbent support, a porous base layer nearest the support, a porous ink-receiving intermediate layer above the base layer, and a porous ink-receiving upper layer above the intermediate layer. The base layer and intermediate layers are each present in an amount of at least 25 g/mand the total dry weight coverage of the base layer, the intermediate layer, and the upper layer is 60 to 130 g/min order to handle high fluxes of ink compositions during printing and to provide high gloss upon calendering. Also disclosed is an advantageous method of making such inkjet recording materials.

Glossy inkjet recording element on absorbent paper and capable of absorbing high ink flux

A method for increasing the diameter of an ink jet ink dot resulting from the application of an ink jet ink drop applied to the surface of an ink jet recording medium having a support having thereon an image-receiving layer, the image-receiving layer containing: a) from about 20 to about 65% by volume of particles; b) from about 25 to about 70% by volume of a polymeric binder; and c) up to about 10% by volume of a cross-linking agent; the method comprising applying the ink jet ink drop on the surface of the image-receiving layer whereby the diameter of the ink jet ink dot is increased relative to that which would have been obtained if the image-receiving layer had greater than about 65% by volume of particles.

Method for increasing the diameter of an ink jet ink dot

An image recording element having a support having thereon an image-receiving layer, the recording element containing core/shell particles wherein the shell of the particles is an oligomeric or polymeric aluminosilicate complex or an aluminosilicate particulate, the complex and the particulate having a positive charge and being counter balanced by an anion.

Ink jet recording element with core shell particles

An ink jet recording element comprising a support having thereon, in order, a hydrophilic absorbing layer and a polymeric overcoat layer comprising particles of a substantially amorphous synthetic aluminosilicate. Such recording elements exhibit improved humidity keeping and smudge resistance, while maintaining good differential gloss.

An inkjet recording element comprising a support having thereon, in order, a support having thereon a ink-receiving layer comprising a hydrophilic polymer and particles of an aluminosilicate in an amount of less than 30 weight percent solids, based on the total weight of the layer. Such recording elements exhibit improved humidity keeping for print sharpness.

An inkjet recording element comprising a support having thereon a subbing layer comprising particles of an aluminosilicate for improved adhesion.

An inkjet recording element comprising a support having thereon, in order, a support having thereon an ink-receiving layer comprising a hydrophilic polymer, a polymeric mordant, and particles of an aluminosilicate. Such recording elements exhibit improved humidity keeping.
